Hi All,

I was working on this piece for a while before I got sidetracked with a Yeomanry piper. Anyway, I discover it again. Last I worked on it, I got the number of front row lacing as 10 rows. This tunic and guidon were captured in South America in 1808. Main ref is a figure iluustrated in a Blandford book on the Napoleonic Wars by Mike Chappell.

The torso is from Airfix, heavily modified to created a pigeon-like breast. I also resculpted the short coattails. Legs and kilt are modified Historex.

Victor,

its great seeing all these old projects that you are discovering again, so keep on posting the images as you progress.

I love that its Napoleonic Era figures you are now working on, and looking forward to the painted figures in the near future????

Hello TomB and John,

Actually I have done updates of the ECW in the other thread. Started to lay down colours too.

Currently, I seem to be on a roll with the ECW stuff, guidon bearer, std bearer and a dragoon. I guess its due to the fact that I have the refs right in front of me and I can sculpt continuously without having to search for more refs. I am also lucky that I found some resin cast boots to get me going.

As for the Nap stuff, I have just realised how popular this period is on this website (aside from WWII Germans...:)). I have started repainting the Red lancer and am still working on the French Imp Gd sapper besides this piper. The problem for me in doing detailed painting is that I use the same worktable for sculpting as well as for painting. I generate a lot of waste and dust in sculpting which is detrimental to fine detailed painting. Hence I try to keep the two activities separated.

Also at the back of my mind is a WWI tunneller. I have now amassed sufficient ref for this project as well.

As for how many other figures and periods, I am still going through my treasure trove and am continuously finding old abandoned projects and parts (QOOH yeomanry etc ...:)). I am also re-doing my ref library and have rediscovered many areas I should be covering....:).

Hopefully I'll be doing and updating all of these projects soon and actually complete a fair number of them.

Nothing wrong with having half-a-dozen (or more) projects on the go at the same time Vic. It CAN become tiresome working on the same figure all of the time - and it's frequently refreshing to pick up something different for a while. This often gives time for reflection on what you had in mind for a figure(s) too - and an opportunity to change your mind about the original intent.

I'm with you too - about keeping sculpting ( or repairing) distinct from painting. Debris and dust on paintwork can really spoil things - especially with glossies.

Good progress on your current project - and nice to see the way that you work them up. jb

Hello JB,

Thanks for your kind comments. Taking a break from your big bands...:)? Want me to post more pics to tempt you?
I was planning to paint both the red lancer and ecw guidon bearer together. Right now, I seem to be in a sculpting phase. On the workbench includes ECW std bearer, ECW dragoon, Imp Gd sapper, Ethiopian rider, QOOH Yeomanry, WWI Tunneller... for now.

Just one of each? :rolleyes2::Djb

I came across a picture of a reconstructed 71st highlander jacket showing 10 rows of laces. As you can see, it can be tricky to squeeze in 10 rows.

Hi All,

Just rediscovered this piece with the pipes somewhere in my stash. I was looking at it for a while and then started to trim off the lower edge of the tunic.

I worked more on this figure. Adding lace details and also started resculpting the head.

P1090790.JPGP1090779.JPG

I turned my attention to the head. That usually helps to overcome any mental block on my part. The face is being resculpted. I decided not to use any commercial Scottish headdress as I wanted to represent a tourie with some scanty ostrich feathers. So I am sculpting it myself.

P1090822.JPG

I started to paint the figure, as I realised that the bagpipe would impede the painting of the lace and buttons on the jacket.
The face, at this stage, positive looks like the werehound of Baskerville, unintended of course.:)

P1090884.JPG

I resculpted the face and cheeks. Now he looks like a kewpie doll. The tourie looks slightly oversized.

P1090953.JPG

Rescued this figure from the kennel. Added more hair to his head and cleaned up the lacing a bit.

Further sculpted the back lacing. I adjusted and bulked out the kilt on the left hip.

Getting a bit more involved now. I redid the tourie, added a feather and cockade and resculpted the face. Added a pouch.
