Well with June fast approaching I'm really hoping to see some Beach related items appear! King & Country is famous for releasing some amazing D Day related items and sets, recently paratroopers have been the main focus but I think (and hopr) we are in for a special lot of beach themed releases!
I'm really hoping to see some action poses with different units being represented in beach assault gear. Some Engineers Special Brigade (ESB) engineers wearing rubberized gas mask bags, life belts, gas brassards, carrying Bangalores, satchel charges, spools if wire. Perhaps a small vignette set of 2x ESB engineers in action with 2 Hedgehog tank traps which they are attaching plastic explosive charges to to clear the way for the First few waves of Armour support, maybe some thin wire attached between the two hedgehogs. The figures and hedgehogs could even be cut down from the waist upwards to signify them being in the shallow water.
I would love to see some more Rangers, 2nd and 5th in combat poses with wet trouser legs. Perhaps even some of these could be half figures produced from the waist up to reflect them being in the water making their way to the beach!
My reenacrment group and myself did some filming for the BBC on a documentary called 'Last Heroes of D Day'. In it we portrayed several of the last surviving US Rangers who stormed Omaha beach and Pointe Du Hoc. As a result of this I was in close contact with Captain John Raaen, commanding officer of of HQ Company 5th Ranger Battalion. He told me a story that would only have come from the horses mouth. He told that he had a 1928 Thompson but one of his Lieutenants really liked it so Captain Raaen swapped his 1928 for his Lt's M1 Rifle and landed on the beach with an M1 Rifle. I would like to see a small duo set of Captain Raaen with his 5th Ranger diamond on his helmet and officers stripe moving up the beach with m1 rifle and his Lt moving up beside him with Thompson 1928 in hand.
Some 29th Infantry Division would be really nice as this is a unit which was decimated on Omaha Beach but has not been represented recently. Lots of dead and wounded would be excellent for a realistic portrayal of the beach!
Perhaps an updated LCVP or British LCA with Royal Navy ratings firing Lewis gun for cover!
It would be great to see a D Day tank with Wading stacks in a cut down form so that the tank can be displayed in water so as to give the idea of floating in water or with wading Skirts down so as to signify arrival at the beach.
What's your thoughts guys?
Scott
