Just to prove scumbags are alive and well in this neck of the woods
The national army musuem has just been brocken into and 9 vc,s and
2 george crosses have been stolen.
Hopefully they dish out a punishement in keeping with the sacrifices the winners made.

Bloody Hell, Vandilay! You'd think tinpot Waiouru Army Museum would do a better job than that protecting those priceless things. Bloody idiots!!! If they can't protect our history, what chance have they got protecting our country???

Kiwi

Vandilay and Kiwi,

Please accept my best wishes and hopes that whoever perpetrated this disgusting crime against your country and its history of heroism be caught and dealt with, and the medals restored to their rightful place.

Gidday Kiwi
It makes you wonder doesnt it ,Its just not good enough .
I dont dought the ability of kiwi soldiers but the size of
our army at the moment fiji would give us a run for our money .

Cheers Louis
The familys must be gutted ,most of these medals are on loan to the museum
by the familys. If some selfish military collector is responsible for this he should be de balled :(.

Did they keep the originals on display? In the SA Museum the real VC of Edwin Swales is in a safe and the replica is on display. I suppose we have such a high crime rate that we tend to take security precautions more serioulsy.

Hi Damian

I guess its part of what makes New Zealand .... well New Zealand ,but
they wouldnt have thought of putting replicas on display these
are the real deal . These deserved a lot more protection , at the end
of the day they are only pieces of metal but its what they represent
that matters.
And the part that p*$^#@! me of living here, is that we will lose that
part of our physce.[hope i spelt that right ]

cheers Rob

These crimes are just awful!! Words escape all of us.

We had a terrible story similar to this here in the States- I think it was Texas. A young man lost his life in Iraq and the local media interviewed his parents and helped them through the process. About 2-3 weeks later, some derelicts broke into their house and stole all sorts of personal possessions of the family and the soldier- to include his Purple Heart!!!

I know here in the States, the theft and even the retail selling in CMOH's will warrant a friendly visit from the FBI.

They mentioned on tonights news that in the past their had been a theft in the US of 7 medals of Honor from a museum in I think they said Yorktown ?
They seem to think the VC,s etc have been stolen to order as because of
their rarity [particularly Uphams double VC] theirs know way they could
ever be sold or displayed. It realy makes you wonder what goes through
the minds of some people .

What an awful thing to happen. I don't want to sound like my Dad, but it just goes to show that there's very little respect for courage and sacrifice these days. I sincerely hope the perpetrators of this crime receive their just desserts.

My Very Best Wishes to the Good People of NZ.

Words escape me. Hopefully they will be found. It seems that the museum should find a new security chief.

Of course, I am sure you guys would love to hear about the latest fraud investigation I was involved with- a certain municipal government employee was abusing their position and allow themselves and their friends to take the "fallen heroes" property tax credit when of course, no one of their immediate family even served in the military, much less was killed in the line of duty.

That was the biggest challenge I have ever faced as a business professional- given my background. My boss would not allow me to interview this person on a one to one basis.

These stories of the bad side of the human condition, stealing medals and abusing veterans, remind me of a story my old grandmother (SHE'S BACK) told me when I was but a little babe as she gently rocked me in her loving arms on the front pourch as the sun was setting gently in the western pink, red, blue and white sky. She said, "Michael, remember there is no gravity, the earth sucks." I shall never forget that wise old woman's words of insight into the normal condition of humanity.:)
