I was watching Boris Karloff in 'The Body Snatchers' when a scene involving a street singer occurred. The song she sang (and beautifully), I recognized as the song sung by the Scottish troops in 'Gunga Din' as they marched to the rescue of the 3 sergeants. The tune, for those of you that have wondered and never identified it, is "Will Ye No Come Back Again?". It was written in the early(?) part of the 19th century and is a lament about the defeat at Culloden and the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie and asks the question about whether or not he will ever return. It is quite a sad song and you may find several different renditions of it on Youtube. -- Al

Gunga Din is one of my favorite movies and I remember as a child trying to set up the final battle/ambush scene with pillows and blankets.

The cast was also amazing.......they don't make movies like that anymore.

That's the truth. It's one of my all time favorite movies and I never get tired of Din blowing that bugle. My wife has told me to quit imitating that bugle call on more than one occasion.:rolleyes2: It took me years to ID that song the soldiers were singing. -- Al

They put a mirror in front of him, and he said : "I'm Gungah Dinh"
