In the months leading up to the Boxer Rebellion, a US Army Officer and Infantry Pvt. scan the park around Arsenal Lake in the city of Tientsin, China following reports of attacks on American missionary families by militant members of the Society of Righteous & Harmonious Fists, better know as the Boxers.

Watercolor by Amelia Simmons, an American teacher in China during the uprising. Miss Simmons survived the Siege of Tientsin and eventually returned to America with a portfolio of watercolors depicting China during these tumultuous times.
