A bunch of Additions to the List of Aircraft K&C used to produce (1 Viewer)

Hans, Larry and Myself have recently come across several dealer dispatches and price lists from the golden age of K&C production (1996-1999). These dispatches and lists have enabled me to make substantial additions to the list of Warbirds K&C produced.

First of all, I was previously aware of only two 1:32 scale Helicoptors: a UH1 Huey and a Russian Hind Gunship. According to the March, 1998 price list, K&C also produced in 1:32 scale a Bell Jet Ranger Kiowa, a Huey Medivac Chopper and a Hughes Cayeuse in U.S. Army markings, as well as a 1:48 scale Huey.

There is also another 1:24 scale aircraft (in addition to the Vickers Gunbus): a Supermarine SB6 Seaplane (Snyder Cup Trophy Winner).

To the list of 1:32 scale aircraft, we can add an A6 Intruder (USMC), Auster (RAF), T34 (US Navy), Winjeel (RAF), BAC Lightning (RAF), F18 Hornet (Blue Angels [wow!!]), a Fiesler Storch (Luftwaffe Desert, North Africa), and a D.H2 Vickers Gunbus (previously only known to be produced in 1:24 scale).

To the list of 1/48 Aircraft we can add: PBY Catalina (US Navy and RAF Coastal Command), B25 Mitchell (US Army and Navy), JU52 (Luftwaffe), T38 (USAF), A10 Thunderbolt (USAF).

In other scales we can add: B52 (1:100), C141 Galaxy (USAF) (1:144), Constellation (USAF) (1:72), Constellation (TWA) (1:100); a Pan Am Stratocruiser (1:100).

As an aside, K&C apparently made the Memphis Belle and "A Bit o' Lace" B17's in both 1:48 and 1:72, in addition to the B17's K&C made in 1:32. K&C also apparently made in 1:32 P40's in both RAF Desert and USAF european markings in addition to the Flying Tiger versions.

Andy is keeping me busy trying to keep track of all this for the book. The good news is the price lists acually have item numbers for many of the planes and vehicles I had no item numbers for before, which will, of course, be added to the text.

I very much appreciate the list of Warbirds you are making. Clearly, developing this list takes a great deal of research time and effort. Thank you for providiing it.

I am curious, however, why Andy cannot provide this information directly to you. Are the K&C company records not complete?

Whatever the case may be, I certainly look forward to the book you are publishing and the data contained therein.

The answer is no, Andy has kept no master list, and, in fact, Hans, Larry and I often point out newly discovered old K&C treasures to Andy and get the response "oh, yeah, I forgot about making that". So I am constantly at work trying to catalogue everything, so the book can be accurate.

Sorry, I do not have a photo of the Fiesler Storch. I found it referenced in a 1999 Dealer dispatch, but sadly, there are no photographs. Hopefully Andy will have some recollection of the piece and be able to provide us with a description, and an estimate of how many he made.

As usual, that's a pretty amazing list. Hats off to Louis, Larry and Hans for putting the list together. It would be interesting to see pictures of all this planes, if only they were available. It only whets the appetite for the book and hopefully Andy's reintroduction of these planes.

Hey guys, I just got this e-mail from Andy about Warbirds production:

Dear Louis,

Many thanks for the email and your patience. Re the Warbird front—over the years we literally produced thousands. Some of these were “one-offs” as special gifts others were pieces I picked up at the factories when they had produced “extras’ for other clients. Still others (over 200) were bought from a competitor who wanted out of the business. I realized how difficult this must make it for you in compiling your list.

Unfortunately K&C were not as well organized in those days as we are today and that’s why there always a few discrepancies in our warbird lists.

And yes, I do remember we did quite a few 1:48 scale warbirds – B17’s…Lancasters …C47 Dakotas…B24 Liberators plus some others.

Thousands? Wow, that's unbelievable. Creating a list wii apparently always have to be a work in progress, requiring detective skills. If only there was a way to get every owner of a plane to contact Louis and company.
