In the choppy waters off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire a group of Rogers Rangers recently recruited from the fishing communities along the New England coast try out their brand new uniforms and the seaworthiness of their new whaleboat.

The inspiration for the my Ranger scene was the 1904 painting Kissing The Moon by Winslow Homer.

Beautiful painting there by Homer and an interesting title. It would be interesting to know what thought/image went through his mind in choosing the title.

Do you own the whale boat + the figures Randy? If yes, what do think of them?

Nice one Randy! I own the whale boat just got it last month, get one before its gone.

Hi Russell

This is one of Homer's more unsettling paintings. It depicts a duck hunter being taken out in the ocean near Prout's Neck, Maine. The title refers to the fact that the tip of one of the waves appears to be touching (kissing) the moon.
I do own the whaleboat and love it.

Nice work Randy. You can feel the swells and I would be panicking by then.:)

Hi Randy, Great image. As someone who grew up in NH I really enjoy your images of the rangers and Granite state.
