re: the color shot of an "M4" that is passing another one that slipped off the road - both are in fact M36 90mm gunned tank destroyers.

The lower photo of an M4A3 with whitewash - I wonder if that caption is right. Most US stuff didn't get whitewashed before the counteroffensive in January. Still a good photo.

you're absolutely right about the M4 being an M36 Jackson (I should have looked better before taking over the text from the book) . As far as the whitewash is concerned the general text says "pictures taken between the 20th Dec and the beginning of Jan", so you could be right again.
