Hi all,

I would like to share a great surprise I received today.

A few weeks ago I offered some WWII sketches by Andy here on the forum, which I received at last year's Chicago Show at the K&C dinner, to any collector who could use them for his display room.
Fellow forum member nmrocks was the first one to reply and he got them.

Well, today I received a little package from him, and in there was a wonderful "flat" tin figure of Frederick the Great playing the flute after a painting of Adolf-Friedrich-Erdmann von Menzel.

Here is a big Thank You to nmrocks for this generous and noble gesture.
This is a gem of a flat figure. The painting is of highest quality and gives a 3-dimensional impression due to the very well done shading and highlights.

A few pictures are attached to show this fine work, including one which shows how flat the flat really is :D, and one of the original painting which served for this model.

Hope that the Chat Lounge is the right place to share this.

Konrad

Hi Konrad,

It is a beauty !! Good for both of you.

Thanks for sharing,

Cheers, Raymond.:)

Konrad,
Even I had not seen the painting the figure was sculpted after, Cool!
Thank you and Marc both for your kind words but this is a something I've learned from various members of this forum including you, and nearly all of the dealers who contribute hear. The hobby has given me unmeasureable pleasure and a big part of it is this forum. This is by far the most generous community I have ever been associated with. I respect that immensly in a world that seems to grow colder by the day, I do what I can to be a part of this Confederation, it gives me great joy to hear your pleasure!

Hi Konrad,

The figure you received from Ray is remarkably beautiful! You and Ray have been most generous and kind to one another. My compliments to both of you! Good deeds like these should be shared and I am very glad you have done so!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Konrad and Ray,

This is what this hobby and this forum should all be about and congratulations to you both for showing how it's done. :)

On the painting front, I have dabbled in the past with paint but have never painted flats to this degree of excellence; there is a real skill in this as this figure shows.

That is a beautiful piece, Konrad, thanks for posting this!

Scholtz (Berliner Zinnfiguren) has it in his catalog, if anyone is interested in buying it and trying his hand at painting it. I don't know if this specific engraving is from Scholtz senior (Werner Scholtz), or if it was from one of the catalogs of other "editors", as they refer to the makers, that Scholtz bought over time and added to his catalog. If you'd like to see the whole set, you can go to http://www.zinnfigur.com/Figure/DE_Figure_Flats_Set.asp, then choose "Civilian History" from the menu, then "Frederick the Great/Flute Concert".

Puchala had a fully-round figure based on this painting, too, that would make a great little diorama.

Thanks again for posting this, it's always great to get a look at the flats, too, and see the variety and quality that's available.

Prost!
Brad
