Recently I received another 101st Paratrooper to add to my collection and it's NOR008 (http://www.firstlegionltd.com/nor001us101stairbornecaptainwiththompsonsmg-1-1-1-1-1-1-1.aspx).

It arrived however with the figure removed from the base with a hole all the way through the base where the peg goes in. I had no idea that the peg went all the way through the base, but no real worries as I was sent a replacement by the wonderful customer service offered by our host. I have always been a little nervous about purchasing figures that are in somewhat "extreme" poses where they are on one foot or something along those lines. Well as you can see NOR008 is not only on one foot, but is on the toes running forward with the heal off the base. I noticed that my replacement could easily be snapped off its base if not careful as it's not completely stable and wobbles some. I do have another 101st Paratrooper and a Waffen-SS that are on one leg running, BUT those are both completely flat footed and are very stable to the base. I believe I will just stay away from those figures that are on the tips of their toes or whatnot as it makes me too nervous. Any thoughts?

I think with any fine collectible, like FL or other Russian figures, you have to treat them more delicately than some items by other companies.

The figures are supposed to be soldered to the base, so really this should never happen. But sometimes, every once in awhile, a factory takes a shortcut and doesn't do what they are supposed to do. We have far more control now with our productions than we've had over prior years and really this type of thing shouldn't occur.

Best,

Matt

I've had similar things happen with many manufactures- I think it is just the odd factory shortcut or person who forgot to squirt the glue/missed soldering the figure. I have also dropped such delicate figures on the floor and had not so much as a scratch, so I think it is not he manufacturer's fault.

Matt,
Thank you for your reply. So, should the figure wobble at all if soldered to the base? Like I said the replacement I received was not completely stable. When I pick the figure up or sit it down I notice that the weight shifts making the figure wobble on the base some. I thought it might have something to do with it simply being on its toes when compared to the others I have that are on one leg and flat footed. Overall the stability of the figure just seems uneasy.
