Hi all,
Follow me here....When I was growing up in Loretto, Virginia one of most prized Christmas presents I ever recieved was this wooden bat in photo (not sure if it was a Lousiville) but man, I loved it to no end!!!! if someone was looking for me during the Summer months I was usually out in the bean field hitting dirt clods and small rocks with my bat!! one day I took a chance a hit a larger rock and it split the bat from the handle all the way to the middle ..needless to say my disappointment was upsetting, anyway I just took the bat put it away in our old garage as it was no more use to me sadly.....fast forward 35 or so years later, my wife, son are on vacation back East, decided to visit my old home place and show the family where I grew up, the buyer of our home was gracious enough to allow us all to wonder anywhere we wanted, the old wooded garage was still there and the doors were open, so took my son in to have a look around, it looked the same like it was the day we moved, even the old fort we built in the rafters was still there with the date July 4th 1976!!! anyway I'm snooping around and in a dark old corner of the garage my eyes fall upon a dusty old piece of wood, as I look closer I realized that old piece of wood is my bat from my childhood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who'd thought all these years it was still sitting in that garage, I told the owner my story and he couldn't have been happier for me to find it and take it home, which I did, once here in Arizona took it to a wood shop and had them fix the crack in the handle and put wood finisher for protection on it to save it from the dry climate we have here......it is now in a safe location on my wall in my soldier room!!! where it will never be left alone again, I think about all the dirt clods and late Summer nights out in the fields having the time of my life!! just me and my wooden bat!!!...Sammy
