"Standing on a corner watching all the girls go by
Standing on a corner watching all the girls go by
Brother you don't know a nicer occupation
Matter of fact, neither do I
Than standing on a corner watching all the girls
Watching all the girls, watching all the girls go by"

A young English lass stops to ask directions from a Private of the 2nd (Coldstream) Foot Guards outside the gates of Berwick Barracks on a Spring afternoon in 1822.

Figures by W. Britain:

Redcoat 43024
Petticoat 60002

Randy the young lass was so impressed with the Coldstream Private she had to take a second look at him....The Lt.

And at that moment she felt the entire world upside down :D

Find a wheel, and it goes round, round, round,
As it skims along with a happy sound,
As it goes, along the ground, ground, ground,
'Till it leads you to the one you love!

Then your love, will hold you round, round, round,
And your heart's a song with a brand new sound,
And your head, goes spinnin' round, round, round,
'Cause you found what you've been dreamin' of!

With apologies to Perry Como

Randy,
I've admired this masterpiece for a while and will most likely get it soon. In the background, what game are the girls playing?

Jacks? Ken has the painting so perhaps he can enlighten us further.

Randy

Possibly but I think they maybe too aristocratic for that. Perhaps a version of lawn bowls ?

It looks like rural village in Scotland to me. One child is wearing a tartan I believe. The detail appears to show a lot of small objects rather than lawn bowling equipment. Jacks was originally played with animal bones and other scraps.
