Continued from Part 1
USMC forces were made aware of The Bridge utilized by the IJA. A demolition team is dispatched to blow up the crossing preventing further Japanese tanks to cross. The mission is nicknamed, Operation Tankette.
Operation Tankette is a successful mission, but not before at least one or maybe even two Type 95 'Ha-Go Light Tanks make it over the crossing. Along the shore, IJA soldiers discover two discarded crates from the US Marines on the The Raft. What might be in the crates?
Thinking that A Present may have accidentally fallen from a US TGM Dodge Truck or K&C Jeep Willy; without caution, the IJA open one of the crates. Kaboom! It's a booby trap! Three Japanese soldiers are killed in the explosion but luckily, a reluctant officer kept his distance. He has ordered one of the newer riflemen to inspect the second crate more carefully.
Fortunately for the IJA officer who decided not to stand too far from the 2nd crate upon opening, it was not Booby Trapped and aside from a few extra wicks, the crate was otherwise empty. Meanwhile at a hidden location, officers discuss their next attack strategy outside a command bunker.
The IJA soon discover that their Pacific Pillbox is "not so hidden" after all. Fresh troops are dispatched to meet the USMC opposition somewhere in the nearby jungle...
Discovering a heavily occupied IJA area and Japanese Pillbox, the USMC Leathernecks; to prevent further Jungle Warfare, break out the "big guns" setting up a 75mm Pack Howitzer. One of the men states, "this should soften them up"!
Unfortunately, the IJA have the same idea. Losing many of their soldiers, this Command Group has some highly decorated commanders leading the defense of the mountain side from the USMC Pack Attack.
Attempting to make a final stand against the US Marines, the Japanese Command Group orders five loyal IJA soldiers out of hiding. The Sound of a Bugle wails from the jungle.
To be continued...
