Hi everyone.
Some of you know that I recently purchased the wonderful fortified village from fellow forum member "artmabigor"
I wanted it so bad that I did not really think through where I could set it up?
Today I found the solution.
The "built in" cabinet in my room seemed to be the right space.
I had two bookshelves that just happened to fit exactly in the opening, which is 72" wide.

Then I built a wooden frame, measuring 72" wide and 28" deep.
I thought a frame like that will prevent the surface from bending in time.
The table will just sit on the cabinets and the supporting studs at the back wall, so it is removable.
There is a lot of space behind the cabinets that can be used to store many boxes.

Now I only had to screw on some planks and the table was ready.
Any actual diorama, like the village, will be made in modular form on 1" insulation foam board.
For example the village will be set up on a 36" by 28" piece of foam board and the scenery to the left of it on another 36" by 28" piece of foam board.
That way they can easily be taken out and stored and a variety of dioramas can be set up on the table.
Another lucky feature of this setup, is that the ceiling behind the top of the opening is recessed, which does allow for the installation of track lighting with a number of halogen lights to give good illumination of any diorama without being directly visible.
With that kind of lights the table can also serve as a convenient base for photo sessions.
The empty space to the left of the table will receive a few shelves, where I can store scenic items and accessories I want to use when shooting photos.

Voila!
That was it. Here is one shot with the village.
I hope to be able to actually work on the scenic bases during the next week.

Some wood and screws from Home Depot: $50.00 on Debit Card
A few beers from the grocery store: $16.00 on Debit Card
Play value of the finished result: PRICELESS ^&grin

Konrad...that looks tight and sturdy...nice job...it will make a nice display over your shelves...

Hi Konrad,

Very nicely done! I think the location you have selected for your diorama, combined with the buildings and preparation you have already accomplished, will result in a very satisfying presentation. I especially like the fact the diorama will be in your room where you can peacefully admire it for long periods of time.

Please keep us informed of your progress. I am excited to see your project come together!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat
