A bit lost with this one.

I'm painting some figures as Gordon Highlanders in NW Europe, late 1944. One of the figures is a piper.

When highland regiments were campaigning were bagpipes covered in normal tartan covers or were khaki covers used?

I have seen some images of tartan and a few b/w photos that look like the covers were black/dark blue.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks,

Scott

Normal practice was to leave the pipes as they were, there was no official covers made and so any variations would have been cobbled together on an individual basis. The pipes themselves are so distinctive there would have been little point in camouflaging the bags. Trooper

Thanks Trooper.

I ended up going with a plain darker colour as seen in some photos.
