Pierre,
In 1990, K&C began producing beautiful Mohagony Warbirds (the first was a Spitfire). By my count with Andy, he made 101 different models, ranging in size from a tiny Sopwith Pup to an enormous 1/32 scale B29 Superfortress. Each popular aircraft (like the Spitfire, ME109, or Corsair) may have been produced in as many as 5-8 different markings, with as many as 150 made, while with the more unusual aircraft, only 1-5 may have been made in total. With these models, K&C produced pilots, groundcrew, fuel trucks and ambulances, as well as diorama pieces. K&C stopped producing these aircraft in 1996, after a Volcano eruption put the factories in the Philopines which produced them for K&C temporarily out of business. After an aborted experiment in polystone warbirds (a Corsair and an ME109) failed due to the excessive shipping costs of these heavier models, no aircraft had been produced until our constant grousing resulted in Andy's present efforts to bring back the wood warbirds via a factory in China. The book Larry Lo, Hans Hedrich and myself are writing will have a chapter on these aircraft, with photographs of the approximately 50 different K&C aircraft in our collections, including a B17G Flying Fortress, Junkers JU52, Heinkell HE111, Horsa Glider, Douglas A20 Boston, Junkers JU88 Nightfighter, F14 Tomcat, Blom & Voss 141B, Bristol Beaufighter and Grumman Tracker, to name some of the larger and rarer planes.
Regards,
Louis
