My son, Keith, enlisted for six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1992 when he was 19-years-old (he is now 45-years-old). He served in the Security Police's base defense forces rather than in law enforcement while assigned to March AFB in Riverside, California. He was a member of several four man, heavily armed teams whose job was to defend the Strategic Air Command base against anyone who penetrated the base perimeter or approached the nuclear armed B-52s. The teams were comprise of a team leader armed with an M-16 rifle, a M-60 machine gunner, a grenadier with a M-203 40 mm grenade launcher attached under his M-16 rifle, and a fourth man also armed with a M-16 rifle. They were authorized to use deadly force rather than arrest any intruders.

I had to order the sergeant chevrons and Air Force patch on eBay. The rest of the items including his Security Police badge, name tag, unit crest (worn on his beret), etc., I took off of one of his uniforms still hanging in his closet in his old bedroom which is now my toy soldier room. The photo was taken at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas upon completion of basic training. The Security Police toy soldiers were made by Mars Limited of Houston, Texas (long gone). I am trying to located two decorations to put on either side of his photo. Hopefully, his DD214 discharge orders will tell me what they are. However, my DD214 in 1964 said I was awarded the Good Conduct Metal, but I never received it. A year or so ago, I applied for and received it and a National Defense Metal which I earned, but which was not mentioned on my DD214
