We watched a DVD version last night w/o edits and commercials. I noted that when Sergeant Porter has his breakdown the other characters treated him kindly and there was no "Thanks, I Needed That!" slapping around. Considering the platoon lost the Captain, Lieutenant, the medic, (Winnie the Pooh voice Sterling Holloway) field glasses and used up all their anti-tank ammunition before reaching the farm house, they did pretty good in the story. All they had to do is listen to John Ireland. Great old movie.

Agree. One of my favorites while growing up and still holds up very well. Love the Mk.1 tanks still in use that late in the war. That farmhouse is attacked in many other war films that followed this one. And thank goodness that Lloyd Bridges finely got his apples. -- Al
