I am a total novice and wanted to ask what would be a good starter assortment of acrylic colors for painting 54mm plastic ancients? I went on amazon and see that they sell sets for around $50...but none are devoted to ancients. Any hints would be appreciated. Gauls, barbarians, Romans, Greeks, Carthaginians, Persians, etc.

You don't have to be to fussy as they are Ancients...Not like Napoleonics ect,
Just start of with 6-10 bottles of paint and slowly add to that over time.
Flesh...medium and dark tones..nothing to pale remember these ancients spend plenty of time out in the sun!
black
white
browns...you can get as many types as you want....for all types of leather and hair!
red
flat green
metal/silver/gold
just stay away from bright colours and you are good to go.....Hope this helps!

it helps a great deal...thank you

Don't be afraid to mix acrylics either if you need to lighten or darken a colour up.

I avoid buying sets, for reasons the others have mentioned. I buy individual colors as I need them. Why pay for 20 shades of khaki, when you really only one or two?

Prost!
