In the first years of the war, Union soldiers used to joke, somewhat darkly, that no one ever saw a dead cavalryman. I've been collecting matte finished ACW since 1998 and would have to say the same is true in my forces. My infantry are now at regimental strength for both North and South and I can field full batteries of artillery, but the horse soldiers are woefully unrepresented. The Collectors Showcase figures from last year are superb, but aside from that the pickings have been slim. Frontline offers a wide variety but these are sufficiently different from Britains/Conte/ONTC/Troiani/CS in both sculpting style and paint scheme for me to opt against them. Britains early 2000s cavalry offerings left much to be desired in terms of quality. Except for two Troiani inspired sets, Conte has offered no cavalry north or south.

I'm betting that the new Britains can and will fill this void with creative, top quality cavalry for both north and south. I hold out hope for the 2nd half of 2008. And Ken, here is your best chance to get away with sculpting equine casualties...

Hi Tim, I'm wondering if you've heard some of the same rumblings I have, because if not, then I suspect the timing of your post is excellent. I believe you might well be seeing some ACW cavalry from Britains in the coming months, and I am fairly confident they will as excellent as the infantry sets already available. We shall see.

What you will see should be the first of many more including casualties. There will also be additions to the artillery we have already released including other guns and equipment.
As far as infantry, as I have been saying for some time we wish to complete what we are working on before we move to another subject. There are still important subjects to be added to the standard sack coat/frock coat/shell jacketed infantry to build good units. This is why you still will not see the Zouaves, Chasseurs, Sharp Shooters or other specialist troops in the upcoming catalog, but trust me I am already working on them, and some will be shown in the Fall catalog.

Most grateful, Ken, and very proud of the direction you and the rest of the Britains team have taken with this line.
