ACW set from Trophy ! (1 Viewer)

This seller has had this set on eBay three times now. The last two times it was at a Buy It Now price of $1,499. It did not sell on either of the two previous occasions. Trophy had a companion set, which he apparently does not have, of Pickett's Charge. I have both sets which are consecutively numbered 52 and 53. Interestedly, I have been trying to sell both sets at the West Coaster for much less than his original Buy It Now Price without any success.

The list price on these sets in 1994 per Stone Castle's price list was $365.

That set is Holding teh Line on Cemetry Ridge. It is the companion set to Picketts charge. It was the first Trophy set I ordered. It really brings back memories. I don't have a big box. Len packed it in smaller boxes to make shipping easier to SA.

I saw another set on ebay with confederate troops in a cemetary

Damian,

Did Len include the signed certificate? If so, do you know what the number was? As I mentioned, mine are numbered 52 and 53. I was trying to figure out if he made 100 sets---50 of each or what.

Ah, I sold both Trophy's special Ltd Edition Union Holding the Line at Cemetery Ridge & the Confederate Pickett's Charge about a year ago for $199.50 USD each on eBay to same buyer in France. I have seen this now $1,999 ebay deal before as well for the Union set. I have gotten much better prices for old Trophy sets in more recent months since Trophy went out of business in late 2006. But the sellers of this Trophy #22 pc set must really be dreaming if they still think they will get $1,999!!!!!

I would gladly take those sets for $199!!! They are instant collections and should be worth something but I think this seller is banking on who owned it. This really doesn't matter in the toy soldier world unless it is documented as coming from the Forbes Collection and maybe one or two other prominent people.

I dug up the box for Holding the line. It is quite dusty as I have had them packed in shelves in my garage for 5 years and I think the cockraoches have visited them. However the box is intact. The letter signed by Len Taylor says number 108.

I read your article in TSMF. It is a great overview of a great line. I never bougt any Imperial as I bought Trophy stuff. Not a choice due to quality but I just had to focus on one set of figures and spend my money there. If I was Bill Gates or J K Rowling I would have bougtht them all.

Damian,

Thanks for the info on the set number. I guess he made 100 of each. I was surprised that you saw my article in TS & MF magazine on Imperial. I haven't seen it yet! So much for all the talk about "remote" areas of the world being out of the main toy soldier loop.

Best Regards,

Mike
My friend August subscribes to TSMF. I used to subscribe but stopped my subscriptionin 2001. He showed me the latest edition today when I saw him at gym. When Mark Avery started the Toy Soldier Collector he sent me a free copy of the first edition so I now subscirbe to that magazine.

Mark Avery is a clever fellow. They gave out free copies of their first issue to everyone. I also subscribe to Toy Soldier Collector, but prefer Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine which seems a little less rough around the edges and it comes out every month versus ever other month. BTW, I still have not received the September issue of TS & MF.
