AFL is a football game played in Oz...you score points by kicking a ball between 4 big tall sticks....you have a choice of scores...6 pts for kicking the ball between the central sticks..or...1 point for kicking the ball between the other sticks ,either side of the center sticks.....most player prefer to kick for 1 point.....even when they are in a easy position to kick for 6 points they still prefer to kick for one point....this is the most specular aspect of this game......it is called " Giving the other mugs a chance to win the game"......the average team prefer to kick their 6 pointers ...in single kicks.....so as to give the other team a "Fair GO"......very sporting .....There was a football coach who actually thought that the sporting one point kick , had nothing to do with sportsmanship...but...the horror of it all....the players could not kick under pressure...imagine that....SO.....he had a brilliant idea.....he had seen a movies on TV where horse's were trained to withstand pressure of unruly crowds...loud noise. abuse and various other nasties....." Hey" he thought...I will teach my player to kick under pressure and kick 6 pointers.......whata cracker of an idea.....But...he soon found out that the horse's were smarter than his players ....so ...back to the drawing board and the one point sportsmanship......a lighter look at AFL.....cheers TomB
