After 10 years of buying and selling on eBay , Paypal hit me with a chargeback from a credit card company. I recived a notice from Paypal today that they are withholding about $75 from my account because a buyer who bought something from me in October notified his credit card to dispute this charge. I phoned Paypal and asked what to do, and they asked if I had proof of shipment and I said tes, I shipped Fed Ex and gave Paypal tracking info to show it was delivered. Buyer never contacted me of any problem and I also noticed he is no longer registered with eBay, feedback around a 10.I have the $75 frozen by Paypal until credit card responds.

Has anybody had this happen to them? And any advice? Thanks, Andy

I had one deadbeat customer who filed a dispute claiming I never shipped him his order. I had USPS delivery confirmation showing that it had been delivered. PayPal covered the charge back in my case. Keep in mind though that I average about 30.000 a month in sales through them. Plus it was a transaction though my own web site and not eBay. Maybe that's the reason they did it. If you have tracking showing it was delivered they should cover it for you.

Paypal is much more responsive then Ebay. I have had a few problems over the years with a couple of buyers & sellers but Paypal always made things right.

Keep in touch with them, they can unfreeze your account if you get the right agent, I have found them patient and reasonable......all qualities never found with Ebay customer service!

My tranaction was through eBay. And my Paypal account is not frozen. paypal has just taken my $75 and put it on the sidelines until they here back from the credit card company. Again, I did give Paypal the Fed Ex tracking number and show it was delivered. Thanks for the feedback, Andy

I don't think it is fair to say "Paypal got you" just yet. It sounds as though this Paypal payment was made by the buyer's credit card. Hence the card company has notified Paypal of a potential charge back to them. Their action is simply in response to the credit card company disputed charge and is completely rationale and ordinary. I would agree that if you have proof of delivery it should work out but it may take a few days for the interaction to be completed.

Paypal has different rules regarding eBay than it does your own website using paypal or payflow link.

I had a chargeback issue locally here in Philly on a a website purchase and successfully defaeted it by showing proof of delivery.

I've never had an issue with this on eBay. Very fortuneatly, I have some wonderful and supportive buyers all over and I take really big photos so I haven't had a chargeback issue with eBay sales. That said, I was told that eBays policies about "item arriving as described" take precedence over other types of transactions. A higher level of "buyer protection".
