Col.Mortimer Smythe and his sister Winifred, who has just arrived in India from England via the P. & O. Steamship Line, take time for tea and catching up on family news in the bagh (garden) of the British Residence. The Colonel's dog Charon is attracted by the smell of a fine cigar brought as a gift from England.
