Yesterday I showed off the British conversions, today it's the turn of the French;WW1-French_conversions-5-2011 (6)-compressed.jpgWW1-French_conversions-5-2011 (3).JPGWW1-French_conversions-5-2011 (2)-compressed.jpgWW1-French_conversions-5-2011 (8)-compressed.jpgWW1-French_conversions-5-2011 (5)-compressed.jpg

These are "NEAT!" I've avoided the AIP French because of the mix of men with greatcoats and jackets but now I'm inspired.

I wonder if the figures in jackets could be made into Italians.

They are very nice (and I know what I'm talking about, I'm...French!!!!)
Regards.

We need some advocates for 1870s and early 1900s FRENCH infantry in BLUE plastic. Kepis, greatcoats, BIG knapsacks, and gaiters.

Hi Scott
great conversions and very inspiring - will have to have a bash at some AIP conversions - the one I always had in mind was their FFL converted into French Line Infantry ww1 - Aug/Oct 1914 in kepis - the problem is the havelock neck-curtain on the FFL - any suggestions?

I was thinking of cutting the heads off the FFL figures and replacing them with Civil War kepi heads, but the neck cloths are so "secure" to the shoulders I didn't attempt it.

On the good news the AIP plastic is fairly sofy and "carvable". . You can remove the kepi with the neck scarf, clean up the collar area then add aonther head. Unfortunately that requires sacrificing another figure just to get a head. There are some Historex heads that might work in this scale.

For the French officer in Kepi I used a TSSD ACW head (for t he hearded face) in a UP kepi. I cut off the US hat, created a level surface for the new hat. I glued down a strip of styrene that would be the bill of the new kepi, after everything was solid I built up the hat with two=part epoxy putty (Kneadatite). A little fiddling and smothing and voila - a reasonable kepi.

I don't know enough about French WW1 uniforms (yet) but I imagine that some of the colonial troops may have had disctictive head gear before every started wearing helmets. That can also add variety. One could use French heads with Adrian helmets, add them to Doughboys, change the rifles to French Lebels and have a representation of the black US troops of the 92nd Division.

They look great Binder.
If only Hat Industrie would do there WW1 in 1/32 they have such a great range in 1/72.

Hi Binder

would you consider having a crack at the AIP FFL converted into French 1914.

I am going to have a try at some point
