Can someone tell me a bit about these and the originals for that matter? For example, what size are they (relative to Britains current Napoleonics), does the size vary between sets (British, French etc), how detailed are they and where can you find some pictures? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much.

I think John (leadmen) has some of these and he posted pics a while back on the forum. I'll look for the link.

They're very detailed, similar to Historex kits, if you've ever seen those. Much of the detail is cast separately, to be glued on by the modeler. That is, of course, a distinct advantage of styrene over metal. I'd say they're comparable to Tamiya's 1/35 kit figures in quality. There are better resin kits available, but that's not to say the Airfix kits aren't good. If you look at the work painters were doing in the 60's and 70's, you'll see a lot of Airfix kit figures.

Prost!

I posted some pics on page 2 of the Plastic thread under Airfix.I would say the figures are thinner then current Matte Napoleonics but they are 54mm.

Thanks John. On reviewing that thread I note you show some kits and also some complete figure sets. Is there much difference in detail between the two and where can you find the kits now?

The Airfix boxed sets are soft plastic with nice detail and figures come unpainted. I only see them at shows and most hobby stores no longer have them. I heard they might be re-issued.

The hard plastic figure both mounted and foot are available at some stores and shows. They show up often at flea markets and toy shows. These hard plastic kits need assembly and painting like a model kit.Airfix is releasing their 1/72 figures which were missing for awhile and maybe the 1/32 figures will follow. Squadron Shop has Airfix but some months they have a nice selection and other times they are out. I see they have a few wwll hard plastic in 1/32 but no Napoleonics right now. They have some nice Oryon three figure metal painted Napoleonics sets on sale by Oryon for $35.00 for three finished figures.

Thanks again John. So is the issue with the soft ones straighting the weapons and keeping them that way? Does painting them help that?

Also I see these advertised along Call to Arms, which look pretty good. How to they compare size and otherwise? Does anyone know?

Spitfrnd i just painted a batch of the Airfix soft plastic British Naps made by CTS they are made from the same old molds that Airfix used back in the 70's.
but they are much better cos they are not 35 yrs old.
there hight is not to bad at all but they are slender but i can live with that as they look good en masse

John, I just wanted to thank you again specifically for the Oryon tip. I got three sale sets and they fit rather nicely with my FL figures and are nicely done (apart from the bases). I just reordered another set of three. Please pass along any other Oryon Napoleonic specials you come across.

You are welcome. I have only one set of the Napoleonic figures. They are Grenadier Guards and painted nicely. I know their bases are a little hard to get use to but I might order some WWll which are 1/35. I don't understand why some are 1/35 scale and some 1/32 scale. I think 1/32 scale are the latest releases. John
