Of all the bonehead ideas, charging people to check their bags is a real ringer. Aside from the cost, it discourages passengers from checking their bags and encourages them to carry as much on board as possible. That would seemingly increase time for everyone to get through security and the amount of luggage that must be scanned. If there was any real intent to improve security at airports, the airlines would be prohibited from charging for bags. The incentive should be to limit carry on items that have to be screened. A good example of how greed trumps the public good. Also, can anyone understand how the airlines are losing money when every plane is overbooked and they stopped serving food. Using 9/11 as an excuse to save money is about as low as it gets for any industry. :mad::mad:
