I collect the three, so...

Pierre.

you must be rich...I think if I take another on 8it willonly be one...alamo may seem too close to the napoleonic so will the revolution stuff....maybe the egypt stuff then??????/ Anyone else collect this time period?

I don't collect any of them. So, what you want to get depends on your interests: what period of history you find interesting. Egyptian history, etc. doesn't really move me. Found that movie about the Crusades interesting, but not enough to want to buy a new line of soldiers. The Alamo is nice but not enough to want to buy again, especially with World War One and Light Brigade on the way. The answer for me is none of the above.

Don't get me wrong, they're all beautifully done, exquisite scultping.

But, if I had to choose one, I'd go for the Alamo.

Wellington,

I collect the Ancient Egyptians and I find them to be endlessly fascinating. They are well sculpted and beautifully painted figures. The figures depict a time and culture very unlike the Napoleonic figures you collect. If you are looking for a significant contrast to what you already collect, I do not think the Egyptians will disappoint you.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I do collect the Egyptian line and think they are a wonderful addition to my collection. I display my collection in curios and as you indicate this line provides a nice contrast to the others. Of the different eras I collect my wife favors this one. The kids don't really pay much mind to 'daddy's toys' but I have found them staring and discussing some of the Egyptian figures. I would certainly recommend them.

Wellington, The Alamo will set you back far too much in so many ways. I do love it, but unless you have the room for a very large display I find it very difficult to make use of it. I have all the Conte Alamo walls and buildings as well as some others. It is simply too large in this scale , even for a nut like me.
Of course you don't have to display the entire thing but you will want to!
You could get away with a section of castle being besieged by Crusaders and make use of that fantastic siege tower and catapult.
The Egyptians usually don't do much for me although a display by King and Country is the exceptian.Simply marvelous and you could make it fit into a wonderful display behind glass. Also you dont need numerous ranks { ranks of dancing girls might be fun} of soldiers.1 set of everything would be all you need and would make a 1st class display
My 2 bits.

I was facing the same dilemma a while back. I bought one Crusader figure at the show in Hackensack and thought to myself what can one tiny figure hurt. Not a good move ! Now I need them all, the sculpting and paint are amazing. Plus I saw the opportunity to create a small Dio allot easier then a large Alamo set up (anyone know where I can get a Conte play set castle ?). I do keep eyeing the Alamo figures though. I think I may need some professional help :) Maybe a whole team of specialists in my case.

At least theoretically you will only buy one of each of the Egyptian or Crusader sets whereas the Alamo will require several of each of the marching or firing figures. However, the problem with Egypt is that your Napoleon and his Mamelukes will muscle the dancing girls off the pyramids and statues. Go for the Crusades or wait for World War I. Both of these would have sufficient distance from the Napoleonic range.

Hi Wellington-

No so rich as I do not collect WWII or Napoleonics.

What I like in the RTA serie is the Texans figures. At the exception of Bowie's last battle and the Texian artillery set, all the figures are single and you just have to buy one. Not so expensive and totally different. I have no interest in making a diorama with thousands of Mexicans attacking so I'll buy only one of each, just to have an exemplary of each of them.

The Crusaders and Saracens is, in my opinion, the most beautiful serie that K&C is producing actually but it will be more expansive as some single figures are mounted, plus the catapult, the ladder set and the siege tower.

The Egyptians are totally different. The AE02 set is magnificient but again that serie will be more expensive than the RTA.

Finally, the advice of our friend from Dublin (Cannon) may be the greatest one... wait for WWI.

Pierre.

The Egyptian Series never gets much attention and it probably deserves to be in a class by itself as most of them are works of art. Andy deserves a lot of credit for taking a risk on making something like this. They can't even be classified as toy soldiers.

Looking back at the comments here, including mine, I'd have to correct what I said before. It's a series I'd like to collect if I had the room and the werewithal. They're impressive to look at in person and give you sense of what it must have been like in Ancient Egypt. They are quite unique.

Gentle Friends,

First of all, I want to acknowledge that one should collect what one likes. If one of the three particular series (RTA, Egyptians, Crusaders) under discussion "grabs" you more than the others, then you should collect that one.

As I have said many times, my collection is characterized by diversity, which, translated means I have many different interests (or absolutely no will power). I have figures displayed from numerous times, places, and events. When guests visit my home for the first time, I have noticed that they usually are drawn to one of three groups of figures I own. These three groups, in no particular order, are: 1) connoisseur figures (medieval knights), 2) Ancient Egyptians, and 3) Delhi Durbar (Beau Geste, Britains, Marlborough). It is interesting to me that people who do not collect toy soldiers or who have not seen many toy soldiers single out the Egyptians as one of their favorites among the choices I am able to present to them. I think their reactions testify to the compelling and impressive nature of the Egyptian figures.

In short, I do not think you can go wrong collecting any of the three lines of figures, especially if one line attracts you more than the other two. However, the great mysteries surrounding the Ancient Egyptian culture, combined with wonderfully sculpted and painted figures, seem to really touch many people.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I'm with Pat, collect what you like. However, if you want the more expansive series, I would go with Crusades over the Alamo. There is only so much you can expect out of the Alamo campaign in comparison to the numerous battles, sieges and disasters of the first through fourth crusades.

Hi Guys,

I will echo the thoughts of Wadepat, I have a wide variety of soldiers in my collection covering many eras and the ones that have attracted the most note recently are my Russian made Winged Hussars from the Battle of Vienna. They are really unusual and most folks have never seen this type of Knight before so if its the unusual you desire and are only going to go for the King and Country Line then the logical choice is the Egyptians since they are unique. But it could be smart to conserve your funds now and wait for the next installment of whichever line you like best to come back out and not make a foray into what can only be a very expensive proposition with the acquisition of a new line.

All the best

Dave

Personally i think you should collect the crusaders..... Truly magnificent works of art and can only be appreciated in the flesh....:)

Wellington,
I collect K&C Napoleonic's like yourself, but I have now started collecting the Crusaders as well... they are excellent. Plus the different time period (not Horse & Musket) makes for a nice change of display.
Regards
Jeff

So far, I've only gotten into collecting the WWII and Crusader lines-and I'm going to 'try' to stick to that approach for a while. I'm VERY impressed with the Crusaders and my Saracens are due to arrive this week.

This newbie votes for the Crusaders...

After seeing both in person at the hobby bunker I,d have to say I was tempted to start collecting the new crusaders and even bought 2 figures for the wife for x-mas, she likes knights and has me get here some when she knows i,m going to the hobby bunker. She has a few in the living room she displays with her wizards.
Myself I would go with the crusades over the alamo but, the best advice I can give you is always go with what looks good to you. Your the one whos going to live with them so buy what looks good to you!!!

Thanks for the input guys this is what I might do collect a little of the crusaders and the egypt lines making a couple of nice scenes but continue to collect NAPOLEONICS as my main collection..what are your thoughts on this avenue...basically collect only what I really like in each line.

Don't forget that the AE18 item is retired (pair of Sphinx) but still available.

Pierre.
