Hi all,
Has the Alamo subject been played out in the toy soldier world?
I was wondering this the other day, so I thought I might get the opinions of other collectors on the forum.
King and Country I think are the only one producing new figures every year in with 5 or 6 releases. TSSD has new add-on buildings which go great with the Conte sets! Speaking of Conte I talked to one of there reps today on the phone and he informed me there are no plans in the imediate future to do any Alamo.
Is there anything missing that has not been done for us collectors that have a strong passion for this subject?
My hope is that TSSD will make more buildings and maybe some figures (artillery crews, casualties)
Would also love to see W.Britain do the Alamo in detail like their ACW and AZW lines. But I also no everything comes down to $$$ and what's in demand and what would sell. Sorry for being long winded.
What are your thoughts?

Travis, I believe the Williams Britians company discontinued thier Alamo line.

Although this is my number 1 period, I have been very carfeul not to jump on any bandwagons. For example:

25mm - Dixon started an Alamo line which was discontinued. Only a handful of figure poses done.

54mm - Britians - also discontinued. I know they did Crockett and I think Bowie. I do not think they even did a Travis.

54mm - Conte - also discontinued. Started strong, but ended weak. I think they brought out enough items that you could muster together a nice set though. Picking up some pieces from other lines.

The companies I know of that have a lot to offer:

25mm - Cannon Fodder - wargamming figures. Nice line. Not sure if they have any cavalry though.

25mm - Old Glory - wargamming figures. You can create a full Texan or Mexican army with thier figures.

25mm - Boot Hill Miniatures - New line. Very well sculpted. Still adding to line and looks like it could be best line available in 25mm scale.

28mm - Artizan - Very nice sculpts also. But not a full line. If this develops into a full line then this could be a very strong match for Boot Hill, maybe even exceed. But long way to go yet. If I were doing 25mm/28mm I would probably want to go with these, if they finish the line.

40mm - Sash and Saber. wargamming figures. Very well done so far, but not an entire line yet. I am actually working with these figures. I find if I add figures from other periods and manuyfacturers I can completed a full Texan and Mexican army. Would like to see S&S do some cavalry for this period though.

54mm - King and Country - Looks like best painted metal line ever done so far. I am hopeful they will follow thru, looks like it so far. But they also started a Crimean War line that did not go very far. So who knows.

54mm - CTS - plastic range. Very well done. Good selection of figures and accessories. If I were doing plastic though I would probably go with Conte.

Not sure if there are any others I left out. So anyway there are a lot of choices.
I settled on 40mm because I liked the scale. Not as big as 54mm, yet more detailed and easier on the eyes than 25mm. Also S&S is very affordable. Big bang for the buck.

You bring up great points. All good figures, but a lot of unfinished work.
I have the Sash and Saber figures! Love em! I spoke to chris who runs S&S and he told me that Cavalry and artillery are in the works, but no release date yet.

Have you heard of Gringo 40s? Its a new company started by a guy in England. Currently he's making 40mm Mexican-American war figures then he plans to cover the Alamo in detail. Check his site out. Beautiful figs!

Boothill also look great! More detailed than Old Glory.

What's great about 25mm and 40mm is space!

I suspect that the K&C Alamo line will have some 'staying power,' mainly due to the fact that they own Kings X, which is right across from the Alamo. They want to have a good diorama on display!
 
I don't think the Alamo will ever be played out, but I've been wrong before.

Speaking of Conte, I have all the buildings for sets 2 thru 7 available for sale, no figures sold them all already, just the buildings and the boxes remain.

That's a great diorama! I got see it back in May at Texas show.

Yes, I think thier range is excellent. Very exciting so far.

Yes I am aware of Gringo 40's. I have not seen any of those in person yet, but from what I have seen in magazines and online they appear tobe excellent. If they get into the Alamo that would be very nice.

For my 40MM Texan artillery figures, I am using figures from other periods, a lot of conversions. Would be nice to have them available at some time.
 
Just curious but is anyone making 40mm Alamo Buildings?...or at the very least the Chapel.
 
Yes, I'm pretty sure there was a company that was making the figures and some buildings, the Marxman had some at some of the shows. I don't recall the name of the company. I have some of the figures, I'll see if I can find the name.

As of right now Sash and Saber Castings has an Alamo range in 40mm. Defenders and Mexican inf. and a Crockett figure. I emailed S&S and they told me artillery and cavalry are in the works, but no release date yet.
Gringo 40s is also planning to do the Alamo in detail. I don't know of anybody that has any of the buildings or chapel in this scale. I hope this helps.
