Sad news as Alistair Horne, my favorite historical writer, has died at the age of 91. He is the author of many military works, many of which were related to French military history. His most famous, and to me, most influential, was 'The Price of Glory: Verdun 1916', a fabulous read on that Western Front bloodbath, which I checked out of my high school library around 1967, and was so struck by it that I have read it probably 2 or 3 dozen times since. He also wrote books on the Fall of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War, the Fall of France in 1940, and a very important and influential work on the French war in Algeria. I will miss him but he lives on in his works. RIP. -- Al
