I don't know if this was posted before, but I just finished reading this classic and it was excellent. In the beginning, it was a liitle slow, but really picked up in intensity. Very sad ending, as realistic as war is. Good WWI read. I highly recommend it.

Great read. One of the best war (or anti-war) novels ever written. It is WW1. -- Al

It's a great book. Read it in high school and then re-read it with my son about five years ago.

There are are a couple of film versions: one from the 30s I think and one from the 80s or 90s. Never saw the older version although I think it won Best Picture. Other one is ok, with the actor who played John Boy on TV (can't remember his name).

Quite correct. The original AQOTWF was done in 1930 and on my list is ranked #1 as the best war film ever done. It was directed by Lewis Milestone and won best picture and director Oscars. The remake in 1979 and starred Richard (John Boy) Thomas and Ernest Borgnine. It was quite good, too. Apparently there is a third remake starring Daniel (Harry Potter) Radcliffe, on the way. See the original if you haven't. It is superb, if a little dated in some of it's techniques. -- Al
