Just touched down in Honolulu for a couple of weeks R&R. Anybody recommend any toy soldier shops in Hawaii to add to my list of places to visit?

cheers

Jules mate,
There is a great military place to visit near the beach next to the Hilton Hotel.
Its in a park and is called Battery Randolph, the US Army Museum of Hawaii.
Its an old gun battery been converted to a military museum. Spent a few hours in there on my way home from the US in March this year.
Hope this may interest you apart from the USS Arizona which is a must see.
Cheers Howard

The Battery Randolph that Howard mentioned is at Fort Derussey in Waikiki. It's a good museum located in a gun installation and I think its free admission. See not only the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, but be sure to board the Missouri Battleship that's docked there (the Japanese surrendered on the ship in Japan). If you've never been on a battleship, those 16 inch guns are quite impressive. Also the Missouri took part in the first Gulf war. There is also the Bowfin submarine along with a museum and an aviation museum that I didn't get to see myself. The Bishop museum has ancient Hawaiian artifacts that's neat to see. Sadly, I don't think there are any toy soldier stores in Hawaii, but if you do find one, let us know. Be sure to try the local food. Hawaii is very diverse in culture, landscape (the mountains are beautiful) and each island is completely different. Have a great time!

Cheers guys. Will be heading out to the Army museum first thing tomorrow morning. Been there once before, but that was in 97 so no doubt things may have changed. Saving the Pearl Harbor sites for sometime between Christmas and New Year (or maybe later, depending on when they are all open). When I was last here there were a couple of militaria dealers which I'll try to track down again but I never did find any toy soldier stores. Will keep you posted.

If all goes well and with Andy's suppport I would like to be the first authorized K&C dealer of the Hawaiian Islands!

Well, it's 21.30 on Christmas day here... having a beverage whilst reading a fantastic little book that I picked up at the Army Museum yesterday. It's called "The Battle of Nu'uanu 1795: An Illustrated Pocket Guide to the O'ahu Battlefield" by Neil Bernard Dukas. A really interesting field guide/account of the battle between the forces of Kalanikupule and Kanaehameha that brought the islands of Hawaii under the rule of the latter.

The invasion of O'ahu involved around 25000 men using traditional weapons and firearms (with some European 'advisers'), which is quite something when you consider that at the same time the military establishment in the US numbered around 3500 troops. Reading about the weapons, tactics and the battle sites makes me think how interesting a K&C series of this campaign could be. But alas so limited in it's scope and market, that like the Khmer, Aztecs etc it would just not be viable.

BTW, if anybody heads to Hawaii, definitely make a trip to the Army Museum. It's been revamped since I was there last. Lots of awesome models (particularly of artillery pieces related to the fort) and well worthwhile. Can post some pix if anybody is interested.

Jules,

Is the Army museum referring to have these outside. I remember there being one in downtown Oahu not all that far from the beach.
