Well, it's 21.30 on Christmas day here... having a beverage whilst reading a fantastic little book that I picked up at the Army Museum yesterday. It's called "The Battle of Nu'uanu 1795: An Illustrated Pocket Guide to the O'ahu Battlefield" by Neil Bernard Dukas. A really interesting field guide/account of the battle between the forces of Kalanikupule and Kanaehameha that brought the islands of Hawaii under the rule of the latter.
The invasion of O'ahu involved around 25000 men using traditional weapons and firearms (with some European 'advisers'), which is quite something when you consider that at the same time the military establishment in the US numbered around 3500 troops. Reading about the weapons, tactics and the battle sites makes me think how interesting a K&C series of this campaign could be. But alas so limited in it's scope and market, that like the Khmer, Aztecs etc it would just not be viable.
BTW, if anybody heads to Hawaii, definitely make a trip to the Army Museum. It's been revamped since I was there last. Lots of awesome models (particularly of artillery pieces related to the fort) and well worthwhile. Can post some pix if anybody is interested.
