It did not take long for Australian forces to realize that even the all-terrain Dodge Jeep was no match for the mountainous jungle terrain of Papua:

Yes this and every vehicle would be curtailed quickly in this impenetrable jungle terrain. Still a good way to start the campaign. Robin.

Yes Rob, the dense and tropical terrain would certainly delay any movement of vehicles unless you have a battalion of labourers in your kit bag. The Japanese created the jungle cutter with a modified Type 97. Nice scene you have created here. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Grey

Nice looking diorama. I had the same thoughts a few years ago with something similar. Greg.

I did something similar with my Road to Mandalay thread.

Hey Guys, love the dios. So cool to see the different jungles you've created for your Aussie collection. Special thanks to TG for these fantastic figures!

Thanks Grey, always enjoy reading your comments.

As I've read, some jeeps were used initially then all the equipment and provisions would have to be hand carried. What a rough way to go.

Great setups and photos WesternOutlaw, Horus, and Sapper 😎

I did a similar Kokoda-themed vignette last year with some of the older TGM Aussies and their recent Matilda tank:

Excellent work, guys! Impressive photography as well.

The Aussies parked an overheated Dodge Jeep and attempted to make their way through the jungle on foot. A trusty yet stubborn mule would prove invaluable in helping carry their provisions...

Wow! I'm really impressed by all the wonderful jungle dios shared in this post. Thanks for sharing; and if anyone else has some, feel free to post.
What a great theme!

The bamboo and train track really capture the feel and look of Kokoda Steve. Robin.

Cheers Robin :salute::

But when I mentioned I didn't have a train, since I only needed the track for dioramas the guys at TG thought it funny so I did another little scene you may remember of the TG six pounder's taking on in a backdrop photo one of Thomas the tank engines friends !{sm4}

and the Toy Soldier Picture of the Year Award goes to Steve (Horus) for his rendition of Thomas the Tank Engine along the Road to Mandalay...

Too funny, Steve. Good one my friend. Tanks! {sm4}
