As much as I do like Britain's figures, with the slowness of releases I no longer limit myself solely to their products whilst I want to keep to figures that match up in scale as far as possible in the ranges I have interest in, which for the most part is Napoleonics.
I now have widened the field to include First Legion, Kronprinz, Thomas Gunn, JJD are there other manufactures whose figures also match up scale wise with Britain's ?
Steve

Have you looked at Cold Steel? They make some nice Napoleonic figures.

Brad

Horus, I hate to admit it, but I am also starting to look at alternatives as time passes. Does anyone know of any other manufacturers of ACW figures other than the ones listed below? Would also have to be in similar in cost/quality to fit my retirement budget. Chris

Well, if you're looking to save money check out Conte painted ACW plastics. Cheap with decent paint jobs that can be improved upon.
Second you can buy BlackCat ACW figures which are just excellent and match Britains perfectly. You can buy castings for very, very reasonable prices.
The owner is a really good guy who goes by RAGNAR or FUBAR here. At one time he was selling painted figures from his line. Not sure if he still does. PM him.
One of the good guys in the hobby.

Take a look at First Legion's Mass Battle series. Price wise, they're comparable to Britains.

Agree with Brad regarding the mass battle from first legion. I picked up my second one and the sculpts are first class and painting although not as good as the regular figures. For 36 you can't beat it. I am using them in my back row and they blend we'll.

Black Cat figures are pretty nice.

Guys

Just to clarify a point, I am only comparing the sizes with Napoleonics from other manufacturers to WB figures. In their other Manufacturers ranges the sizes may well not match up with WB.

I should probably mention that the TG Naps only fit in size wise with WB starting with their KGL releases

Steve

I don't have any WB Naps but FL Civil War matched up well with WB Civil War so the Naps may also match up with WB. As Cold Steel is supposed to compete with FL, those too may match up with WB.

Agree with Jazzeum-Cold Steel figures are very impressive.Their Napoleonic range is quite good and scale wise fit well with FL and Kronprinz.
They are apparently bringing out some dragoons in the near future.

Thanks Jazzeum and Farmertony for tip on Cold Steel.
Steve

Thanks everybody, gives me a number of options which I will definitely look at in the coming months to maybe pull the trigger on. I am even looking at buying additional WB figures and modifying them the way Ken does for the show specials. This way they will blend in better with the WB figures. I will post a few to see what you all think. Chris

William Britians NEEDS to produce more products and get them out in a reasonable time frame....I have some of their NAP figures and they are excellent in scale, sculpt and paint.....BUT the bottom line is collectors will look elsewhere if WB does not step up releases and provide them on a timely basis.

Speak for yourself Vezz. I enjoy WB and have collected them for about 35 years now. I don't mix companies and currently I am only collecting the Zulu range (and a little of WWI which I cherry pick)

You do know they were sold and moved don't you, the also explained that no new figures were included in this catalogue to avoid delays and disappointments. At least they are keeping collectors in the loop, cut them some slack !

Their speed in getting releases out to dealers is a problem that predates the sale. In December 2014, Ken showed a Morser for WWI. It was not until May or June of the following year that it was available for purchase. That, in my opinion, is a problem. You get collectors interested and excited in buying an item but when it takes months to get it to collectors, they will lose interest and turn to something else because there are other companies out there competing for our dollars.

We have a similar situation with the 88. It was shown in Chicago but it's not due out until the summer, if then. Either don't show it until it's close to being released or narrow the time gap between showing an item and delivery to dealers.

I still don't see a problem, not uncommon amongst manufacturers to do this. In model railways circles for example, the APT-E was announced in 2014 and is just being delivered to collectors. This is just one example, there are many, many others still in the pipeline with many passing the expected release date and still no product.

You, as a loyalist, may not but others don't share your opinion. A failure to deliver product timely, which seems to have infected Hudson & Allen, affects the bottom line and confidence in the company.

Cold Steel is not a cost effective alternative. My suggestion now is repaint some of the Britains.
:smile2:

Agreed, altering and repainting looks to be the best way to go at this point. I only collect WB ACW and Clash of Empire figures so I will make do with what we have so far and use my extra pieces to create some variety. Chris
