Here is a bit more. AMC is not one of my favorite channels. Air date 26 March 2018. Jumping the gun a bit.
"Inspired by a true story and adapted from the best-selling novel by Dan Simmons, The Terror centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction — frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth. The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements but with one another.he 10-episode series stars Jared Harris (The Crown), Tobias Menzies (Outlander) , Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), Paul Ready (Cuffs), Adam Nagaitis (Suffragette), Nive Nielsen (The New World), Ian Hart (Neverland) and Trystan Gravelle (Mr Selfridge).

“The Terror captures a rare combination of fascinating history, complex and flawed characters, the inextinguishable human spirit and the horror and promise of an uncharted world,” said executive producers and co-showrunners Kajganich and Hugh. “We are looking forward to bringing viewers into this world in March.”

Shot in Budapest, Hungary, The Terror is produced by Scott Free, Emjag Productions and Entertainment 360 in association with AMC Studios. In addition to Kajganich and Hugh, the series is also executive produced by Scott, David W. Zucker, Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert and Guymon Casady."

I'm looking forward to that one. It sort feels like we are living it today here in PA with the gloom and snow. Read the book a while back but can't remember much about the story. Dan Simmons is hit and miss but his books are always a couple hundred pages longer than necessary.

Finally time for this one to air! And with snow still on the ground. The trailers look great. I recently re-read the Dan Simmons book. No spoilers but it is a grim story that blends fact and fiction.

Watched E1 last night, (a special preview, aired after The Walking Dead) and will be back for E2 tonight. Found it very well done, acting, story, cinematography, all of it. I love polar exploration stuff, and this qualifies, even though it is NW Passage rather than polar. Good story. -- Al

E2 just as good. This is going to be a good watch. -- Al

The Dan Simmons book is pretty good with a lot of details but it's very long. Simmons is known for long books sometimes with too much detail on the subject matter for a fictional account. It is hit and miss with him. And this particular book has supernatural elements that haven't quite been fleshed out in the first two episodes. It is not strictly speaking just a fictional recounting of a real event. The acting and look of the show has been excellent so far. I do have to laugh at AMC marketing their premiere package in which you can watch without the endless commercials they run. They are like the airlines who make their customer service as bad as possible and then ask their customers to pay extra for basic service.

They are not a non-profit, but the commercials are a bit much. Someone should tell the advertisers that we all have fast forward.

Then never should have shot that Eskimo.

They're doomed.

They should never have rung the dinner bell with that polar bear hanging around. Sir John should have stayed home. -- Al

Asking viewers who already pay for cable to pay again to avoid the commercials is their prerogative. But it seems like an implicit acknowledgement that their programming is otherwise unwatchable with all the commercial interruptions. Many of which are AMC promos for other shows. Absent DVR, I would never watch anything on AMC. The irony is that when AMC started out they were like TCM with no commercials. Then they made a big deal about having one commercial interruption. Now it is endless. I suppose the upside is that it may allow them to afford a few original shows like this one but man I hate those endless commercials and promos.

THE TERROR---Ridley Scott said he is in talks with AMC for Season 2 of the horror series, “It’s difficult too, because in this one, of course, they all die [laughs]. So we’ve been coming back to [AMC] with suggestions for a second season, not necessarily along the similar lines. But let’s say, this comes up in the AMC title as being almost under the heading of a bit of a horror film, OK? But I think it’s not only a horror film, but I think it’s better than that.”
Scott added, “It’s a combination of real life fear — it’s interesting that the ship is called Terror as well — real life fear and trepidation leading to terror. And that gives it the horror banner. But I think the characterizations in it are really special. So coming up with another show, almost an entirely different story is the target next. And I think we had a very good run of the ship with [AMC], so I think they’re looking for more.”

Liked the show well enough. Don't know how they will get a second season out of a story where everyone died, unless they pursue the various rescue expeditions and/or the continued search for the NW Passage. -- Al

This was a tremendous show, had me hooked from the first episode, it gave you a great sense of what life was like aboard a ship in those days, the ending was depressing in that everyone dies, how they dragged those boats across the ice and rocks is hard to fathom.

Much like True Detective, they need to leave this well enough alone and let it end here................but then again, Fargo has been tremendous with different characters and themes.................nah, leave it alone.
