America, Russia and the Crimean War (1 Viewer)

During the Crimean War, the US angered the British by providing aid to Russia. This included weapons, a steamer and medical and engineering advisors.

The guns were provided by Samuel Colt of Hartford, Connecticut. Here is a brief description:

Really interesting post. Although we Australians are obviously aware of the American Revolution (or War of Independence - I have always wondered whether there is a discussion of the relative merits of each title) emnity from events such as the War of 1812 and the Civil War (and I think the press ganging of American seaman?) have really escaped the general consciousness in our part of the world. It is hard to imagine for people of a certain age that there was ever a time when England and the USA were anything other than Allies.
