OK guys here's another mystery from the vault. They are a set of plastic American heroes: Kit Carson, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Custer, Sitting Bull, and Buffalo Bill. I picked them up sometime in 1950s-early 60s. They have name on front of base and birth/death dates on back. No markings of manufacturer or country of origin. I've kept them since they are nicely sculpted. I think they may have come out during the Davy Crockett craze of the mid 50s. Any info? Perhaps Marx?

Richard O'Briens Collecting Toy Soldiers Volume 2 shows a box of American Hero's like your picture under Marx figures. The 1992 book shows Marines valued at $55.00 a box in book, Also, at the time they listed figures in your picture at $15.00 each on page 270 . I think they are worth more.
O'Brien wrote three books on the American toy soldiers and one book on Foreign toy soldiers. I recommend these books for excellent references. Many photos of figures. They are paperback and Mr. O'Brien now in his seventies has no plans to make another book. He hopes someone works on an updated version.

You are a veritable reference library. Thank you for this info. Are the O'Brien books still in print?

Yes Hamilton books, I think they are still in print. I see them at shows also. The early two books on American Toy Soldiers might be harder to get but all three versions have the same information. A few price changes and pictures might be different.
HamiltonBook.com had the Foreign Toy Soldier Book for six dollars a few months ago. These books usually averaged $20-25@. I bought an extra Foreign book because I was wearing out my first one. Maybe I should get a life:D John

Yeah - they're definitely Marx... They were sold separately in stores, and various figures were also used in the very early Ft. Apache Sets. They may have come as a set as well. I'm sure there are other collectors who would be able to fill you in on these much better than I... To have these unbroken is exceptional!
