Just a thread thats a bit random, seen as Kraft is about to buy Cadburys Schweppes which do our forum members prefer American or British Chocolate?
I know which i prefer and have only really tasted American chocolate 3 times on my trips to the states, pretty bad i have to say!
Its funny how unlike most American firms,US confectioners dont have a presence in the UK market, don't know why:confused:The reason for buying Cadburys?
The general reaction in the UK is one of dismay, not the fact its being bought, but will recipes change for the US market, but Kraft really don't have a good record with British chocolates firms, having bought Terrys of York, then shutting the plant down with over 180 years of history and 320 jobs lost, moving production to Eastern Europe as a cost cutting excercise:mad:
I suppose its the way of the world:(

Go Cadbury's. Other than Hershey's I don't think I could name any American chocolates and can't recall eating any.

I definitely prefer British chocolate like Cadburys over american chocolate like Hersheys or Nestles. However, overall, I think Swiss or Belgian Chocolate are far superior to British or American.

Cadbury every time.As Louis says Belgian and Swiss Choc is very nice too,but I find I get fed up with it quicker than Cadburys. Also I've eaten Cadburys since I was an ankle biter,so its in the blood.(along with high cholesterol!!;))

Steve,

I'm sure that jobs at Cadbury will be decimated. My company was just recently acquired and unfortunately the only way the buyer can make it work is by letting lots of people go. In corporate speak, it's called "synergy." It is very, very unfortunate and depressing to see people you've known for years let go. As you say, it's the way of the world.

I suddenly thought of this poem...

Teeth

English Teeth, English Teeth!
Shining in the sun
A part of British heritage
Aye, each and every one.
English Teeth, Happy Teeth!
Always having fun
Clamping down on bits of fish
And sausages half done.
English Teeth! HEROES' Teeth!
Hear them click! and clack!
Let's sing a song of praise to them -
Three Cheers for the Brown Grey and Black.

Got to say its not all myth. Some folk you see on tv and you think wow have you ever been near a dentist!.And with a generation hooked on fizzy drinks and sweets its not surprising either, but its probably not quite as bad as the American tv industry make out.And they also think we all speak Cor Blimey guv Cockney, and we all know thats not true eh guvnor.......D'oh!!;)

Good thing my wife has great dental insurance or both my kids could eat corn through a picket fence.

Here in the US we have a gag item called Hilly Billy Teeth.

As for Chocolate..."meh" ...that's for women isn't it? ;)

Abosultely no doubt about it UK chocolate, wax is used over here in chocolate making !!! That is why it is nasty :(

It'd be intersting to see if Cadburys end up making multiple styles of chocolate, to cater for the tastes of different markets / countrys.

If you take tobacco products (unfortunately, speaking from personal experience ), the brand I smoke, Marlboro, has different blends of tobacco, depending on which country it's been made for, despite been a world known brand (just got some Russian ones - nearly blew my head off!).

Could end up with the same for Cadburys, as the brand may well sell better in the States, than the actual Brit style chocolate.

Anyway, got to go and stick my false teeth back in now......

Chocolate? Ladies and gentleman please step aside for

TOBLERONE!!!!!!Swiss made

American or British chocolate? Yes, please. :D (But for Am. choc. only good chocolate like Ghirardelli, not Herseys.)

I don't like either. I think they are "cheap". But a friend of mine is a "chocolate maker" and part owner of AHB Foods.

The stuff he gets is off the charts. Venezuelan, Guyana and other rare beans. Try that stuff and you'll never go back...

Sorry guys but the crème de la crème in term of chocolate is Belgium chocolate! The rest is second class :) I don't know if you have ever tried their white chocolates filled with cream but those are totally decadent...
