Through a chance of good fortune I came into a set of 50 miniatures of American Fighting Men through the ages. They are labeled the American Military Historical Society 1983 Archive Edition.
They set ranges of figures from the Amreican Revolution through Vietnam. All are in excellent condition and finely detailed. They really are a great set.
Does anyone know any information on this set? I have been unable to find any descriptions anywhere.

Hi Randy,

Were you ever able to find any information on this set?

I have the exact same set and I am archiving many different sets of soldier figurines for a collector and I'm unable to find any information about these particular figurines. I also haven't been able to find a website for the American Military Historical Society.

I'm new to learning about these soldiers so I'm not able to look at one and know what their rank was, etc. I also want to figure out how much they are worth and who the sculptors and the painters were.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Best,

Nichole

I am not sure, but I think they were sculpted by some of the same artists who also sculpted some Franklin Mint toy soldier sets (eg, the Yorktown commemorative). I used to know names, but I didn't record anything, so I can't remember.

I know I've discussed these before with other veteran members of the MFCA, but I don't remember more details. I can ask around the club and see if I can get more details.

I have some of the figures from the Revolutionary War end of the series. The quality of the sculpting is good, though the paint jobs were inconsistent in quality from one figure to the next, and some are pretty crude. I may still strip and repaint some of the ones I have.

Prost!

Your are right they are pretty much the same as made by Franklin mint, I owned at one time : British Army and Naps ranges.

Hi, all, some additional detail for my earlier post, and thanks to you, too, Al! Yours is one more vote that makes me think the AMHS set was produced by or through the Franklin Mint on behalf of the AMHS.

These may very well have been sculpted by Ron Hinote, who traded as Little Generals, and who also sculpted on commission for series that the Franklin Mint produced. The AMHS figures are very similar in style to figures which Ron sculpted for FM.

I don't have definitive proof yet, but so far, we all seem to be heading in the same direction.

I did also look in Garratt's "World Encyclopedia", and though he included articles on Hinote and on the Franklin Mint, but there's no mention anywhere of the AMHS series. However, if these were a one-off commission, for the AMHS by a regular manufacturer, eg FM, they might have escaped Garratt's notice.

I'm going to keep looking and post back if I can find anything more definitive.

Prost!
Brad
