Hello K&C Fans,

After reading Andy's pleasant story about memories as a child visiting the Clyde Model Dockyard and 'parade' collection Christmas gift for a lucky young boy, I've been wanting to share a little story of my own (from Christmases Past) and link to one of K&C's more recent released sets.

The year is 1974. We always had a tradition in my family to have a large get-together on Christmas Eve followed by an exciting opening of the many gifts under the tree. This particular Christmas Eve, one of my brothers staged a 12" G.I. Joe Adventure Team set next to the tree. To my surprise, I would discover Adventure Team Joe in pith helmet hoisting up a mummy's sarcophagus with a brightly colored yellow 6-wheel ATV. Accessories included a shovel, pick, and other tools to unlock the Secret of the Mummy's Tomb. I would long remember this toy as my "favorite gift ever".

Years would pass, but I was always fascinated with Ancient Egypt and most particular, the 1932 Universal Horror Karloff Mummy.
In 1998, as what LEGO fans refer to as an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL), I would purchase LEGO’s Scorpion Tracker, a new LEGO theme at the time featuring the LEGO hero, Johnny Thunder, and his fellow archaeologist friends. Adventurers Desert would be the first of several LEGO Adventure themes complete with a sphinx and pyramid.

In December of 2010, I purchased a number of sets from Playmobil's new Egyptian theme. Setting up an Egyptian village for my son, I enjoyed activating the many tricks and traps rekindling some of the fun I had with Adventure Team Joe.

2012 would be a great year for discovering Ancient Egypt toys with a few unique items including an Egypt archaeology set by Mighty World, a fun but short-lived brand that I found in a small private toy shop:

Safari would offer a 12-piece Ancient Egypt ‘TOOB’ with pieces that my son would utilize for a shoe box school history project. I probably enjoyed creating the scene more than he did.

I also discovered a previously released Hasbro 12-inch Adventure Team Joe set complete with a new and improved (and scarier) Mummy. Believe it was released in 2001.

The following year, I discovered a small ornament set including a 1/32 scale Adventure Team Joe with small ATV and mummy as a tribute to the old 12-inch Secret of the Mummy’s Tomb. I used the pieces and a few of my other 1/32 scale military items to create a number of adventures in Egypt.

A few other toys and action figures hit the market including this Mummy who my son really liked. His arms, legs, and torso were in a small crate that required assembly.

Just last month, I purchased some of Thomas Gunn’s Ancient Egypt sets creating some small scenes that some of you may have seen. Love TG’s Ancient Egyptians I might add.

On the morning of December 1, 2021, while sipping a hot cup of coffee, I was pleasantly surprised when viewing Andy’s December dispatches, ‘Discovering Tutankhamun’. I was immediately reminded of the fun I had with my 1970s Adventure Team Joe and Secret of the Mummy’s Tomb, and had to order the 4-figure tribute set (as a Christmas present from my wife).

I commend Andy and the King & Country Team for producing an awesome new sub-theme of K&C’s Ancient Egypt line. The thought of creating a small chamber or pyramid with 4 archaeologists truly brings back childhood memories of Egyptian desert adventures. With today’s news of additional treasure hunters/looters and “surprise appearance” in Riches Beyond All Measure, I am excited to begin excavating and creating new adventures as I did as a kid (and now an adult). I find every piece a treasure.

I tip my pith helmet to K&C; thank you and Merry Christmas all!

Rob,

we got the same present that Christmas, and I loved mine! But the next Christmas it was trumped by a G. I. Joe yellow helicopter with a winch to recover an Idol full of jewels! Those were great times to be a kid!👍👍
