If wonder if somebody knows what companies made models of Anglo-Boer War Armored Train.
I saw one sold at Vectis 4 years ago. It was a tinplate made by RJG (which I have never heard of)

Obviously it was simple and not quite accurate version :(

The real train had a great history!.

Very cool:cool: Can you see it pulling a couple of wagons loaded with troops? Maybe a couple of Boers tied to the front. Thank you Breaker Morant.

I don't know who made them, but I know Mark Hoffman has two incredible Boer War armored trains, with cars full of troops being pulled by the armored locamotive. I know the figures on one are by Trophy, but the train is not. I will try to get him to e-mail me some photos.

Thank you, Lou. The pictures would be just great and maybe Mark can tell us who made these trains.

I thought about making a diorama for this train and commissioning somebody to make 'shells' for the train and the cars and some specific figures will be needed as well.

I just remembered that a guy named Bruce Roberts from Custer, WI now makes custom military trains. I met him at the Chicago show in 1993. I ordered a custom set of U.S. Infantry from the AWI thru Viet Nam from him. In recent years, he has switched to ACW trains with artillery or ACW river gun boats. I believe he also had a Boer War train at the last Chicago Show. His table is always down stairs on the left wall. If you are not going to the show, I'll check it out for you.

Trophy made some great Boer War sets. These included a field gun being pulled by a tractor and a ox drwan naval gun. I have never even seen one of these in the metal but only pictures.
Perhpas Louis has some information

I've seen both the tractor pulling the gun and the ox drawn naval gun sets in the metal, both in the collection of good friend Mark Hoffman. They are very very well executed sets.

Louis
We need photographs Pleeeeez.
Could you ask your frined if he would mind having some pictures posted on the forum?
I would be eternally grateful
Regards
As always

I have seen them both and they are outstanding. Here are their descriptions from an October 1996 price list:

EQ13 - OXEN DRAWN 4.7 NAVAL GUN Consisting of a Naval Gun and Limber pulled by six oxen. Three sailors marching and two sailors seated. Three native Drovers. Price $375 USD.

EQ45 - STEAM ROAD TRANSPORT - TRACTION ENGINE Consisting of a fully detailed Metal Steam Traction Engine with driver and assistant. An open wagon containing a mixed load and four Gunners, plus a 6 inch 30cwt Howitzer. Price $575 USD. //Note: The back page of the Trophy Catalog from 1 August 1992 refers to this as Boxed Set EQH5.//

Hello Mike
I kind of missed this thread in a while. Did you see The Boer Train in Chicago?

BTW, if you go to the General Toy Soldier Discussion section and look at the thread entitled "You Are Invited...." there is a photo of a Boer War train (I think) with sailors from Bob Walker's collection. I asked him where he got it and have already forgot what he said.

I saw that one it was upstairs as I recall. Sure would love to see an ACW one.

Steadfast Soldiers makes a number of Boer War sets which could be used on the armored train. Set SF36 hjas six Boers in assorted posses plus six British Infantry including an officer with revolver three standing firing and two standing at the ready. Set SF61 Quick Firing 1 PDR Maxim Gun (Pom Pom) with three man crew would be perfect for the front of the train. There is also set SF56 Royal Horse Artillery Gun Crew (FSO) that goes with set SF53 A 12 PDR 6 CWT MK 1 Breech loading artillery piece which could also be used. There is also set SF39 City Imperial Volunteers with an officer and three men standing firing. There are also sets SF35 Boer Commando (assorted poses), SF33 Devonshire Regiment (marching), SF32 City Imperial Volunteers (marching), SF18 British Infantry (kneeling at the ready), and SF17 British Infantry (standing at the ready). All these sets have four figures each.

The Boer was has never enjoyed the poularity of the Zulu war with toy soldier collectors. Even with the centenary a few years ago nothing happened. In the bibliophile world the Boer war is very popular and there is a vast bibliography.

Hi Guys,

This is an interesting era that hasnt been very well developed by the various makers out there. I would love to see some more of the Armoured Trains. There is a set of Boers on ebay right now its a reserve auction but the figs look like they are in good condition and someone might be able to nab these at a reasonable rate. Check it out.

I wish Britains would re hit this one too especially since they are going to revisit the Zulu war and the Sudan. Maybe we'll get something from them in the next few years.

All the best

Dave
