Recently visited a "Wargame Show" out of curiosity mainly, as a result of seeing buildings and scenery items in 28mm scale on the internet. I was completely blown away by the range of figures, scenery, in fact everything related to this scale. Whilst I have no interest in wargaming and the fantasy stuff the range and quality of the historical figures impressed me greatly, in fact the level of detail in many put some 54mm plastics to shame. I have wanted to put together a diorama of the Battle of Rorkes Drift, but having embarked upon a similar project in 54mm for the Alamo, decided to look at 28mm scale and featuring the entire thing on a 4' 0" x3'6" board. In this scale its possible to feature the battle on a one to one basis, a lot of work but possible.
I have made a start on some 24th foot which I attach pictures of below. You should be able to spot the "film" versions of Chard, Bromhead and Pvt Hook.

Hi Mike,
Hard to believe that these are 28mm! Superb finish as usual. {bravo}}

Btw, what make of figures are these?

Many thanks Jeff, the figures are a mixture of metal and some hard plastic. Made by Empress Miniatures who are in league with Warlord Games. The wounded/dead are by Redoubt Enterprises. I must admit I've had to visit the opticians since painting this scale !.
See pic for 28mm v 54mm.

Preaching to the choir with me Mike, my 28-30 mm are totally consuming for me. Every period with as much detail as any scale plus as you say and the terrain and scenery is the best this side of world diorama competitions.

Excellent work. Empress makes really nice selection of figures in this scale. I am currently working on 40mm Zulus for my wargame. But I have loads of 28mm for this also.

Really nice I too collect 28mm-30mm but for FIW but for some reason I bought some Zulu war figures off ebay. They are plastic and are painted nice but I don't know what I'm going to do with them.Don't know the manufacturer but they are plastic.I have 4 British and 18 Zulus.

Really nice painting.

It is interesting - the comparison photo shows the exaggerated proportions of 28 MM. figures quite well.

Just compare how many "heads" tall each figure is...

Thanks Mark, l can certainly see myself buying more figures in this scale, quite possibly some from the FIW range.

Thanks Mike, certainly some ranges by various manufacturers are very "short and dumpy" looking with weapons overly exaggerated but l didn't think these were too bad.
Checked out your website, some very nice figures featured, also noticed that you are based less than a mile from me !...........its a small world !

The smaller the figures go, the more you have to exaggerate - partly due to casting constraints (I also run Black Hat Miniatures and produce 15mm and 28mm figures).

If you want to drop in for a coffee and a chat you would always be welcome. Just let me know.

FYI - Put some quick pics of the 40MM figures I am working on, visit this album please.

What I like about these is they are multi part castings. heads, torso, bottom, shields are separate. So you can make them into lots of different poses.
They come with 4 different weapons, spear, club, musket or Martini-Henry. Heads are available for married or unmarried Zulus. I have not finished the
bases on these yet. This is just a small sample of poses you can make. The British come in two parts, bodies and head separate.
