Once again I scroll through the T.V. guide to find the Hist. Chan. with high expectations of good programing on Xmas Eve. With such a rich history I expected to see some real good shows, but what do I find in the prime time slots? 3hrs of "Monster Quest", you gotta be kiddin me! What is this Halloween or xmas? What in the world does monster quest have to do with history. I use to love this channel but lately it has been a huge disappointment.

Ha. I guess the ratings are higher for shows about "Monster Hogs" and UFOs. What can you expect in a society that spends billions on sports teams and let's their schools crumble? Something like 30% of the 8th grade kids in DC can't read. A decade from now we will get a marathon of Jerry Springer.

Monsterquest,UFO Hunters,Ice Road Truckers,Deadly Catch,Dirty Jobs, etc. These shows are alright to watch once but they have marathons over and over of these shows. The History and Discovery use to have new and interesting shows on Sunday night to look foward to but not anymore and TLC I won't even comment on.Their is so much about history they could do shows on but I guess they don't want to put the time and money into.

You can always tune in to TBS and watch the "Christmas Story" marathon :)

I think they moved much of their better programming to channels that are in the next tier of most cable companies' offerings. The Military History Channel, for example, is owned by the parent of The History Channel, if I am not mistaken. And some shows that premiered once on THC, turn up in more frequent rotation on TMHC. My cable provider offers that channel, but it is in the next price bracket up from the one I'm currently in. It's not worth it to me to move up and pay more, just for that channel. Heck, I'm thinking about scrapping the package I have and going to our basic offering, which has only the local affiliates of NBC, CBS and ABC, our 2 PBS stations, and the local UHF stations. That would save me $45 a month (I pay $65 a month now, for 100 stations, of which I watch maybe 10 regularly).

It is too bad, I wish that cable companies would apply the selection functionality that supports pay-per-view and on-demand programming to all of their offerings, but it'll probably take legislation to force them, and I'd rather not see one more government encroachment into our daily lives.

Prost!

Is the Horse Soldier going to be part of the marathon?

Here in N.J. Horse soldiers is playing on a Encore station (160) which use to be the Western Channel at 10:40 pm tonight and 10:00 am tomorrow,Eastern time. This is if you have Comcast.

That was good! I caught it this morning early when HC has "history in the classroom" w/o commercials. I found my 13 year old daughter watching a replay of it later in the morning. Maybe we don't catch the "good stuff" as we work or are asleep in the AM.

Ill have to see if my grandparents have the encore station. Ill have to stay up if they do or atleast tape it. I havent seen that movie in years.

Agreed, heavy rotation between the military and history ch etc,,due to my wifes emp. we get concession on at&t uverse,,sad state with so many available the times are still at the "nothings on stage" so much. I believe the worst or close to it,amc,a shadow of what it once was with commercials and censoring. "go ahead darn it ,make my day",,sad with vintage films treated this way. The pentagon channel at times has interesting stuff, briefings,,programs.
