Got an email from John today saying he just shipped the new February sets out today...

I suppose we should get Peter Halkett and son delivered this month...
to those who pre-ordered...
as John's website said it would be shipped to dealers at the end of January 2010...
but he didn't specifically mention it in his email...

I was just wondering what might come up for new releases in March...

for the Jacobites...

In Dec...
Mike from Sierra Toy Soldiers...
reported on the JR-14 set...
saying...

"This will also be the first of 5 hand to hand sets to be released over the next 6 months"...

then

in Feb...
Mike then reported on the JR-16...
the 2nd hand to hand set of...
saying...

"This set includes the first of 6 grenadier figures for the 4th Regiment of Foot".

John skipped releasing a hand to hand set in January...
so I'm guessing we might get the 3rd hand to hand set offered this month...

also he shows two new Grenadiers on his website photo of Culloden Moor...
"one at the ready" and one "firing"...
this could be a complete set with the two figures together...
but he usually offers firing sets separately...one standing...one kneeling...
but had issued firing sets of both figures standing...

there was also some talk of "Mounted Dragoons"...for Culloden Moor...
so...who knows...

for Snow Shoes...now that Langy has been released...
I would guess Durantaye will come out this month...
I would welcome some "dead" figures for either side...

for St. Francis...
the last time we got a figure set was "The Prisoner" set...
way back in December...
opting to do structural pieces of the "short" long house in January...
and the "Indian Village Stockade" in February...
I would think he might release some figures for this series very soon...
maybe a couple of Rangers...I hope...
again...I would welcome "dead" figures on either side...

for 1812...John had mentioned artillery sets for Porter's Army...
but I think he said maybe around May...
so if he does something for 1812 this month...
again I would like some "dead" figures...

for Battle of Monongahela...
I hope he keeps releasing pieces...
even if they are only issued as "collector sets"...

for Khartoum and Quebec...

I couldn't even begin to guess...

sooooooooooo...
for March...
I'm guessing...
some Grenadiers for Culloden Moor...
a set of figures for St. Francis (probably Rangers)...
Durantaye for Snow Shoes...
and...

to go along with this morbid post...
some "dead" figures for any of these series...hahahaha....

anybody else got any guesses?

Mike I believe you covered it for march releases. :D Well now that I am just sticking to battle on snow shoes anything for that series would be welcomed.

Titus...

I try to guess every month what John will release...

I'm rarely every right...every once in a while...I will guess one set correctly...

very rarely...he always surprises me...

your guess is as good as mine...

Heavy on Culloden and another Khartoum set or 2 with the possibility of another Quebec grenadier release -- after that total conjecture.

There are several more Khartoum releases that we have already seen. So likely one of those. Another "combat" set for the Jacobites. Mike already mentioned Durantaye who is pictured on Randy's JJ Feb calendar photo (a hint?) How about a wild guess that we get a mounted Washington figure this year? I never figured the VA officer for Washington since he appears to have the wrong uniform for Monongahela (I think). Washington was in Red not the VA blue uniform.

I think you're right on the color of Washington's uniform being red...but I doubt another Washington figure will come up...

Doug...I'm just so proud that you found the restraint not to mention Ticonderoga or Bushy Run on your wish list...hahahahaha...:D

When you run a google search for Bushy Run images and come up with my TF avatar I figure I have made my point. But no promises. ;)

Just a few more posts on Bushy Run and your TF name will show up in a google search...

but that's funny...cause I did a search on styroprene the other day...and the first two links were my treefrog posts...hahahaha:D

I am getting slow, the language with the VM officer figure went something like "this young officer would later become famous", so we labelled him Washington.

But Combat is right on the red coat, so thinking the red coated Washington might be perfect for the 2010 collector's club membership figure. I was leaning towards Christopher Gist, but Washington in a red coat seems to be a much better choice.

Item label from the JJD Site- VM-01 is in caps below.

VIRGINIA PROVINCIAL REGIMENT OF FOOT

YOUNG OFFICER (POSSIBLY OF GREAT POTENTIAL)

REGIMENT DRUMMER

I think it was clearly intended to be Washington, but the question of the red coat and how Washington was dressed that day muddy things .......... so ...... I will just enjoy the figure.

There was some discussion about a Washington figure on the forum a long time ago and I came away with the feeling that John was reluctant for some reason. It seems like an obvious choice. Not sure he is a big fan of personality figures. If you want a Washington figure - then consider the VA officer to be it was the takeaway. Similar to the "Daniel Boone" figure. If you read that description, it's not clear the figure is meant to be Boone himself. Just someone who could be Boone if that's what you want to think.

And it was his FIW blue uniform that he wore to the Continental Congress, until they elected him commander-in-chief, I guess he wanted to show he was serious. Not sure about the whole regiment though, I think you're right about them changing their uniforms at this time, when they officially became the Virginia Blues

This is the link introduced by Blake for the Virigina Regiments Uniforms.

The first photo depicts soldier in the red coat (1754). These red coats were "temporary". The article suggests that these were coats were worn by at least some of the Virginians at the Battle of Fort Necessity. At least to me, these red coats looks similar to the red coat worn by Washington at the BoM ( ---- as depicted in the painting and in the historical documentaries).

By the time of the BoM (1755) at least some of the Virginia Regiments were in their blues with red facings which were made in England. Unless I am reading the article wrong, these blues are not given to the troops until sometime in 1755, after the Battle of Fort Necessity, but before BoM.

Maybe Washington was simply wearing his 1754 field dress coat as he wasn't an official member of the Virginia Regiment.

Actually I think the officer might be the one in Griffing's painting.Stewart I believe.

Maybe if John does a vignette of Griffing's painting we will get our Washington in a red uniform.

To the extent anyone is interested - the fellow in the background of Griffing's painting holding a wagon horse is Thomas Bishop. He was a free black man and manservant to Braddock. After Braddock's death, he worked at Mt. Vernon for Washington. Thomas Gage is the fellow in front of Braddock bending over to speak or look at him and Stuart is the VA officer leaning against the tree. There are some other personalities as well.

Combat to Marco55.....
Mark-
Do you have the list that identifies all the personalities depicted in the Braddock painting? I saw one at Lord Nelson's gallery, but don't have a copy myself. It's interesting because there are several in the painting and if I remember correctly Washington is the fellow in the red uniform with his hand on Braddock's shoulder. Not the fellow in the VA uniform (who I think is Stewart). Could be wrong about that, but that is what I recall.

Marco55 to combat.....

Doug,
You are right in that is Washington.Other personalities are Braddock's servant Thomas Bishop trying to turn a horse with a cart around,Capt.Robert Orme,Lt.Col Thomas Gage(he is talking to Washington),Capt. Robert Stuart, standing above Braddock leaning on tree,Chief Scarouady,George Grogan, standing next to Scarouady,Capt.Roger Morris to the right of Grogan further back laying against a tree.A vignette with Braddock,Washington,Gage Stuart Groghan and Scarouady would be nice.
This is in Robert Griffing's art book,vol.2Anybody interested in this period should get Griffing's books.Beautiful reproductions of his paintings are thoughout the books.

Based on some recent discusssions on the forum my wish list (non-personalities) now include:

1) French flag bearers for Quebec
2) French grenadiers (none so far!)
3) 47th Foot with red facings which they apparently wore during the Quebec campaign (instead of white)
4) British Light Infantry

(1) BoM: Sailors Hauling 12-pounders, a very different set - ropes and pulleys, etc. . These were naval cannon given to Braddock by the Admiral transporting him to America, almost like a last second gift. I was thinking that maybe they cannon were on those small-wheeled naval gun carriages and not the large wheeled field artillery carriages - so a very different look, or Braddock simply had new field carriages made--- research!!!
(2) BoM: Pioneers.
(3) Quebec: Grenadier Officer - British 47th and Sergeant, Corporal --- really needed to finish this subset.
(4) RoF: New Wagon Driver to Replace Retired Set - right now you can purchase wagons and horses, but the driver is retired, so .....
(5) BoM: Club Figure: Christopher Gist or Lt. Col. Gage.

Right now, I use K&C's Davy Crockett as a stand in for Christopher Gist and QB-01 as a stand in for Washington on my BoM shelf -- QB-1 has the red coat thing going for it, but the figure looks a tad short for Washington!!!

Combat, which French Flags would you like to see?
