The show organizers have been keeping the dealers updated as to the show status.

They are monitoring the situation and will keep us in the loop.

As it stands now, the hotel that hosts the show has been shut down for about a month or so, they mostly service the airlines and businessmen coming to Chicago for meetings and presentations.

In the end, whether the show goes off will be up to the state of IL regarding when they will be releasing the restrictions on large gatherings.

George:

Thanks for the info.

I was chatting with Hans about it so I thought I’d reach out on the forum for some info.

I don’t know if the Show will take place but I have my serious doubts. With states starting to slightly reopen, a spike in cases is expected. I think this will lead to some pulling back.

However, even if the Show goes on, consider this: many people travel to the Show by airplane. United Airlines is one of the major carriers to and from Chicago. According to this story, UA has told its employees that due to the Coronavirus, employees should consider voluntarily leaving the company if they can. See https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/04/business/united-voluntary-separation/index.html
Other airlines are similarly affected. If people can’t travel to the Show, well, there will be no Show.

If you are going to have the show in chicago i am afraid you are going to have to move to november after the election.
Pritztker is hell bent on keeping everything closed til then

That’s not true. Every state has opened to some extent. This is Illinois’ plan, https://www.nprillinois.org/post/regions-and-phases-pritzker-s-plan-reopen-illinois#stream/0

Thanks for that; this is pretty much the norm for all states from what I've read;

Phase 4: Childcare centers and schools, as well as bars and restaurants can reopen, all with safety guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Any gatherings of 50 people or fewer are allowed. Travel resumes. To move to the next phase: A vaccine or effective treatment must be widely available. Alternatively, a region has reached herd immunity and there are no new cases over a sustained period of time. Phase 5: Conventions, large events and festivals are permitted. All businesses, schools and recreation can resume with safety guidance.

IE, to move to phase 5, which is conventions, large events and festivals, a vaccine or effective treatment MUST be widely available, OR, a region has reached herd immunity and there are no new cases over a sustained period of time.

So for example for the Chicago show to go off, a vaccine or effective treatment must be widely available OR herd immunity and there are no new cases over a sustained period of time...……………………….sorry, I don't see a vaccine widely available in 4 months.

No way.

No how.

Short of a vaccine, I don't see how shows are going to happen.

I go back to my earlier point: airline travel is going to be difficult and that’s going to eliminate a lot of potential attendees.

I heard a report yesterday that it's going to be very expensive too; difficult and expensive, not exactly a recipe for success.

I spoke to another dealer yesterday, he floated the idea of no room trading for 2020; the room trading is the engine that drives the bus, people are not going to fly in from all corners of the globe/the country for a one day show.

Either go big of bag it for a year.

While the show may not happen I will say people here are starting to ignore the order from the Gov's office. I have seen a ton of businesses open this week alone. We have had two of the different northern county sheriffs say the will not enforce the orders any longer. Both right outside Chicago cook county.

One of my competitors stores had to call the county sheriff to stop the local Pd from enforcing the lock down on Wednesday. The sheriff said it is unenforceable after 30 days and the Gov does not have the authority. The Pd left without fining the store. I doubt I would have handled it that way but they are a nation wide company and they can be a little dirty IMO. I will tell you I am less than 2% down in my Indiana stores and they opened on the 4th of May. Indiana cranked up as soon as the lock down was released. I would have said on the 1st week of may that it was going to take 4 months to bounce back. We opened the Illinois stores for appointments on Friday, before the lock down expires at the end of the month and we had a lot of walk in business and no one knew we were open yet.

I am starting to think/hoping it may bounce back quickly.

The PD should have ignored the Sheriff’s statement as his opinion is not a legal interpretation of the Governor’s authority. Only a court can make that legal determination.

I agree Brad. It is something for the court to figure out. My view was the local Pd took the path of least resistance.
My point was meant to show the confusion of the orders here. And that the whole year may not be down and out. People tend to bounce back quickly
Hopefully we will. I would like to have a Chicago show.

I read with interest as one year I will get there, in the UK the March London Show was cancelled and we are not holding out for the June 2020 show. I cannot see the Chicago show going ahead, people will just not travel, certainly not from outside the US. From what we see the US is in a mess over this virus, the figures speak for themselves, US has less than 5% of the world population and over 30% of the total deaths in the world. The US is build for future waves, large country but with very dense population clusters scattered in the country, NY is over the hump in cases but that will happen to all the major urban areas if the virus is not checked. I also think if you were to imagine an event/gathering which was a serious worry for the virus, it would be a Toy Soldier show, lets be honest the vast majority of people who attend are not in their prime, many with underlying healthcare issues. We joke in the UK looking across the rooms where the event is being held it looks like 'Gods Waiting Room'. Plus there are a lot of people at TS shows, i can only speak about the London Show, who's personal hygiene is not great.

When listening to the powers that be talking about reopening and it is safe or not safe, i take with a big pinch of salt, we are being attacked by a virus, it has no religion, political view, race or morality.

It would not be the end of the world if it did not go ahead, there are more important things than Toy Soldiers. If you went in previous years have a think about how much your chances of catching it in that environment would be increased, then multiple that possibility by 100s, this be right, as every person there would have come into contact with 100s of people getting to the show and around the city/area.

Support your dealers and order anyway, then just sit by the front door waiting...………..

Spot on. I don't see it happening. Not with so many older participants, not in metropolitan Chicago, not with so many people flying into O'Hare Airport.

As Walsingham notes, NY and the NY metro area (I live about an hour driving time from the City) are over the hump but I see people getting sloppy, no masks and the like, not to mention a lot more cars on the road, almost as if it was a normal workday. Perhaps it’s a reflection that we are getting used to living with this disease.
