I recently purchased some Britains charging Zouves made in 1905 ( It's neat to look on the base and see stamped, 9-5-1905). There's quite a bit of paint loss on these figures. If I tried to restore these, would they lose their value?

Most likely they would lose value when repainted. However. I feel that I will repaint old figures unless they are really-really rare. I noticed nicely repainted figures are increasing in value. I am amazed at old hollowcast Britain's that I restored. Sure nice to look at compared to figures with no paint left on them. Also helps protect the figure from lead rot and then you end up with no figure. That's my opinion. John

I might give repainting a shot with one of the figures and see how it looks. I paint Britains re-productions and they look pretty good. I'm just getting into the antique figures. My local dealer is selling a collection from an estate. This guy had 45,000 old Britains and Mignot. Now I'm torn between the old or the new figures, so I end up getting both. Gets expensive.

I have heard that some folks dont like the repainted/restored ones and of course only want the original finish but those pieces are getting more and more expensive so I say that if you use the right paints and stay true to the originals then go for it and enjoy! By the way does he have a set of Skinners Horse in those old ones? They have bright yellow jackets and are from India.

Dave check out oldtoysoldierhome.com. Go to the Old Britains section. There's a set of Skinner's Horse for sale - $160. Looks like it's in pretty good condition.
