Anybody else who cant keep up with new toy soldier releases? (1 Viewer)

Just a quick rant,is it just me thats losing his marbles with everybody's new releases(my heads a shed).I thought the start of the year was considered a quite period,a time to catch on some of last year missed opportunities,but no straight from the off swamped by new items,my wish list blown away,Britains new Zulu war items,King and Countrys new Chafee/blitzkreig panzer/elephant to list a few,then Figarti,and John Jenkins stick their nose in(with some excellent and interesting releases) V2 anybody
Its only mid February,the way its going i don't which is going to pop first my head or my walletI know companies are out to outdo each other with their figures,armour etc,but surely they have got to consider the collecters.
(don't mention the retirements)
It could be just me!

I am afraid that there is no end in sight to the rush of releases. One really has to focus or one will drown. I reckon only George Soros and Bill Gates could between them collect everything. That is why the current fantasy WWI debate is passing me by because I am not in a position to collect WWI.

There is a lot being released isn't there and I only collect one manufacturer. I have no preference for the different eras they make. I just collect pieces that I like from their line up. Currently I am still collecting from the 2001 catalogue

The economic recession we are entering and the increasing prices of the products will help weed collectors' wishlists. It will definitely be a tough year for manufacturers, dealers and collectors. Hopefully the hobby will survive as it has done in the past, after all Britains has been around since 1893 and has survived a depression and two world wars.

Hi Guys,

You worry too much. Just take your time and get only what you can afford. Its a hobby and should be taken as such if you dont have the extra cash then dont go indebt to get something. There will always be ebay or other means of finding a set you miss. Afterall sometimes the hunt is just as much fun as finding the set you need.

I don't worry its just a case of too many choices(if thats possible) and not enough money or the spaceI know some people collect a theme but i seem to flit from one period or maker to another,what ever takes my fancy,thats the problem

I am selfish; I want them all I am like a kid in a toy store when I find out about new releases. But I am also a pragmatist and know that I can not have them all despite my unrealistic wants, needs, desires or whatever you want to call this obsession with new release toy soldiers that possesses me. Especially on the first of each month, thanks Andy you know you’re the devil don’t ya

My solution is that I resist (and believe me with my personality it is very hard to resist) getting everything that strikes my fancy. I would love to collect K&C’ WWI, Market Garden, ACW, ARW, Romans, Egyptians, Alamo and the War Birds. I would also like to collect many other makers. I would love to get the entire Dragon 1:72 and 1:35 amour, Gaso.Line 1:50, and all those airplanes in 1:72, 1:48, 1:32 and 1:18. There are just so many great looking models that are on the market to list them all. Oh my, what wonderful things. And George at Minute Man does not make life easy. He keeps telling me how great the Market Garden figures are and that I am really missing out by not getting them. Oh yeah, did I mention that George is also the devil

Anyway, my method is to keep myself on track for those series that I collect. I have sold those that do not fit the plan I have for collecting. I purposefully go through a two day process before I buy something, unless it’s something like a limited or special edition and it’s in the series I collect. Then, its get while the getting is good.

I have a wishlist of everything that I want to get. It is very big. But I use logic and my wallet to make decision, not my desire to have a new toy that just looks great.

And after all, it’s like my grandmother once told me when she held me in her loving arms when I was but a babe as she gently rocked me to sleep while sitting on the front porch as the sun set gently in the blue pink western sky on a warm summer’ night, “Michael,” she said, “The only thing you really need is air. Everything else is optional.” She was a very wise woman.

I tend to collect what I like, irrespective of manufacturers or eras, but I never became a completist, it's just impossible space and money wise. I already have a heavy conscience on the money I spend on toy soldiers ( well, sometimes ). So I have stopped collecting WWII and WWII 1/72 aircraft, due to lack of room and money, they are now taking a big rest. I also have a large wish list and have to go through choices, like I would certainly buy more Imperial Productions if they were available in Europe, but mostly have to think of that list on the long term. Of course new things always pop up and the list changes, and changes, moves like a tornado I guess...
