Anybody know what unit the EA016 Vickers was? (1 Viewer)

Hi Ronnie,

Not 100% sure, but I think (based on the rather distinctive side-cap sported by the officer with binoculars), that this set is meant to depict a vehicle and crew from the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars. I seem to dimly remember having read this somewhere else online before as well.

I'm almost certain that this regiment did serve with 7th Armoured Division in North Africa, and later in NW Western Europe, so the unit would seem to fit. As far as I can ascertain from a quick Google, the head-gear seems to have been a unique regimental distinction, so this should help in narrowing the figures down! For reference, please see the attached link for a Second World War era group shot of 8 KRIH personnel:

Hope this helps my friend!

I had a customer call today and ask what unit the EA016 Vickers was based on? Any of you North Africa experts know.

Thanks
Ronnie

Ronnie,
The Vickers belongs to the British 7th Armoured Division circa 1940-1941. The 7th Armoured Division's emblem was a white circle on a red square. Later, a jerboa (desert rat) was added to the emblem.

The British Officer in the red dress cap is from the 7th Hussars. He is wearing a locally obtained leather sheepskin lined coat that were popular among officers serving in North Africa.

Semper Fi!
Rick

Thanks for the responses. He was thinking it was the 7th Armoured but was looking for the jerboa.

Thanks
Ronnie
