Hello gang:
I was reviewing my grandfathers military records and a couple years after he completed his tour in the Korean war, he spent nearly three years at Chicksands Air Force Base. I looked the base up on Wikipedia and, it appears to be located in Bedfordshire, which, Rob, I believe you hail from??
Just curious if any of you gentlemen from "across the pond" were ever there? It was my grandfathers second time in England, the first being the preparation for the invasion of Germany.
Funny side note, my poor dad, he and his brother and mom all were stationed there. Anyway, one day, dad was out doing something and got run over by a Briton driving a Rolls!! It messed him up pretty bad and he suffered some continuing spinal problems which he had corrected at Walter Reed Army hospital in the 80's. He said that my grandfather heard the whine of the ambulance and came running around the corner and saw the ambulance crew putting the white sheet over my dad. He said "Your granddad said he was never so scared as he was at that moment". I felt that said a lot given how he fought in WW2, Korea and Nam
Anyway, if anyone knows anything of the place, gimme a shout.
Take care
