Hi, everyone,

This is a figure that was recently auctioned on eBay, and I had never heard of this manufacturer before: Vienna Metal Figures, or Wiener Metalfiguren, in good German.

I googled the name, but found no useful info about them.

The figure is a grenadier from a Hungarian regiment, in the Imperial Army, Seven Years War. The style of the sculpt and the painting is very reminiscent of recent Chinese manufacture.

I'll attach a pic of the figure in its package; I did not bid on it, so I don't have the figure myself.

I'm going to ask on the German forum I belong to, too, and if I find anything more in the meantime, I'll post it back here.

Prost!
Brad

Hallo Brad,

if I remember right Wiener Metalfiguren operate on a very small scale producing mainly (only???) typical austrian and viennease themes (local characters etc.) with the souvenir market in mind. Some of the sculpting may seem rather crude at first glance but they do have charme. Never came to buy any since I found more attractive local brands around. You most likely won't find a homepage or dealer since they seem to be a one-man-show catering for Vienna gift shops. When we lived in Vienna we came across those figures quite often, I think the famous Toy Shop "Kober" (who own most of the molds and produce the almost ancient Wollner series of Zinnfiguren) keeps a stock. If you need more information I will try and find out more.
best regards

Thanks much, danke sehr, mein lieber Schwede (oder verpflantze Deutsche! :) ).

I'll have to contact them, see what they can tell me. It was neat to look at their catalog, too, I'd forgotten that the old Kober figures are still being made.

I recommend everyone take a look at them, too, you'll see a piece of toy soldier history in the figures from those old molds.

Prost!

Hi,
I was in Vienna on a business trip 3 weeks ago and in one of the pedestrian street of the city center I bumped into the Kober shop.
I was really captivated by the displays of the Kober figures in the shop. They are smaller figures (about 4 cm) but they are really nice. There was a large Circus display and even if I'm not that interested in civilian figures, it was tremendous.
I also remenber some few 54mm figures that may well have been Vienna figures.
So if you are in Vienna, it is really worth to visit !!!
Michel
